i think the sites might be a good way of contracting friends but their influence is taking over young people and can influence what they do in everyday life.

This is true: I was invited to a party on Facebook and I went to it.

It was good, but I suppose I got lucky. It could have been a rape-trap. I don’t know why I took the risk. It was probably all that grooming they did, spending ages being actual friends with me in real life. I’m such a fool!

we would like to stop games such as ouija boards being sold as games to children, we understand that certain items are being sold in america, and here in the uk, theses are not games or toys, veiws on websites, have quoted i tried to contact the dead but couldnt, as spiritualist people we have a law as classing us as entertainment, the companies involved should not be marketing these at children, and we would like this stopped

“Please stop selling these entertainment items that clearly don’t work. Yours sincerely, an entertainment item that clearly doesn’t work.”

Let’s ban homework!

by Matthew Lightfoot

There is no child in the country that likes homework. The main reason is that it is a complete waste of time. The whole point of school is to learn. The supposed idea of homework is to ‘reinforce’ what you have already learned, it doesn’t, if anything it makes it even worse because being set extra tasks on a certain topic will make you lose interest. Therefore it will mean you will become bored and you will do worse in the particular topic the homework has been set on. So sign this petition and stop making children do pointless, boring homework.

by Joseph reeves

There work-load is too much at school its self, let alone having to deal with the stress of homework and other out of hours learning, children wish to use their free time for leisure, not for homework, of course studying is mandatory, but homework should be non-existent

Or, let’s find a cunning way of making everyone do homework all the time forever!

by jack wilkinson

give every child uinder the age of 16 a free laptop to use at school and at home for omework so there’s know escape from homework it’s something you have to do.

Because, y’know, kids won’t use the laptops for games or Facebook or anything like that.

This is quite possibly the greatest misunderstanding of how MPs are paid I’ve ever seen in my life:

by Mr Robert Philp

MP’s to have a wage just like everyone else. No second home and all expenses to be audited by independent auditors and a committee made up of members of the public

How come it’s so easy to get into the UK? The other day I saw on the news 3 immigrants who were found in the back of a truck in Kent. They were given a food and rail voucher and the address in London where they needed to register. No doubt the taxpayer is now paying for accommodation, food and thinking about letting the rest of the family over here. When is this country going to stop this? I am currently trying to get into Canada. It’s a trauma. Why… to give my kids a better life as I see the UK descend into self-destruct mode. Surely if we had an immigration reception centre… lets say one of our islands a little closer to Norway, Fetlar would be good, then word would soon spread that maybe the UK isn’t such an easy option. Certainly don’t give out benefits. I am sure they could carry out community duties to pay for their up keep. Roll on Canada.

This reads more like a blog entry or a BBC Have Your Say comment than a petition.

Omigod! Porn!

Kevin Chapple feels very strongly about porn being available on freeview.

by Kevin Chapple

As Freeview is a service that is beamed into more or less everyone’s home now I ask the Government to shut down the Adult channels that run late at night until 5.30am. The channels are not only a money making scam but by what is shown corrupts minds. I am especially concerned about children in their rooms up in the early hours watching this. Writing to Ofcom they tell me 3 of the channels are licensed by the Nederlands and 2 regulated by Ofcom. It is about time action was taken against these channels now before we end up with dozens of them.

So strongly, in fact, that he submitted two petitions about it.

by Kevin Chapple

Freeview tv is hosting adult porn channels which automatically tune in to everybodies home from midnight to 5.30am There are now about 6 of them running with models hardly leaving anything to the imagination. I am concerned it can corrupt kids in their bedrooms up late as well as adults. I ask that these money making scams be taken off public Freeview tv

I think the real loser here is the government’s ePetition administrators. Well done, team!

Military adverts on the television are inaccurate depictions, that show the military as being a lot less dangerous than it really is. People who join the military will have that image in their head, and will make it even worse for them when they realise how terrible it really is.

Have we been watching the same advertisements?

What is the point of spending hours teaching children about the importance of spelling and grammer only to have them given books and worksheets with the exact mistakes they were told not to use. I have seen countless examples of apostrophe misuse in textbooks. It must be made illegal for schools to use material that uses incorrect spelling or grammer (except as an example of what not to do) as a step towards sorting out the horrific amounts of bad spelling and grammer in the country.

A Step In The Wrong Direction

Band planes, cars and anything which is causes global warming. Auto mobiles should only be used for Emergency services only. This would stop pollution, and stop fatel car and plane accidents. Why dont we face up to it, that as a modern race we will not do anything to prevent global warming unless it is against the law. Prime minister’s of the world should take charge, and stop relying on the hope that we will take Tv documentary’s seriously unless we are faced with real forceful dramatic action. A tough challenge for us to except and adapt to, either way this is the only positive solution which would do us no harm.

Yes, it’d do us no harm. Well, besides totally screwing up our economy, of course, because we wouldn’t be able to get the few goods we do manufacture to their destinations, nor would we be able to transport the goods we import.

Also, everything else that’s wrong with your idea.

Richard Moore Hates Your Television

   Posted by: Ben Tags:

Oh dear, we have another “scrap the TV license” moron in our midsts. And this one is armed with misinformation! Let’s get this over with…

by Mr Richard Moore

Why should the BBC be given free money, whilst other TV channels gain no funding from the BBC TV License?

Why also is it satisfactory for the BBC to outsourse it’s published programs to e.g. BBC Americas for viewing abroad.

Why also is it satisfactory for the BBC to use UK License holders money to spurn products for their own profit from the UK public, i.e. childrens toy product etc…?

With the current economic state the country has been placed into, would it not enable families with a lower income to utilise the monies used for a TV License on more benificial items, i.e. feeding their family?

Is it not fair to the other broadcast network’s such as ITV, Channel 4 etc… to not recieve monies from the TV License.

Support the scrappage of the BBC TV License, sign the petition!

Okay, let’s dissect this one, shall we?

Why should the BBC be given free money, whilst other TV channels gain no funding from the BBC TV License?

Because the BBC is a public broadcasting service, and ITV, Channel 4, Channel Five, Sky etc. are businesses supported by advertising.

Why also is it satisfactory for the BBC to outsourse it’s published programs to e.g. BBC Americas for viewing abroad.

Actually, haha, they don’t. What happens is this: BBC Worldwide, the business arm of the BBC, is given the rights to distribute the shows to other territories. What happens then is that BBC America has to bid for those rights, and if they succeed then they get the show. You probably don’t know this but until recently BBC America didn’t have the first-to-air rights to Doctor Who – the American SciFi Channel (now called SyFy) outbid them for the rights to series one through four, and they let those rights lapse this year for the one-off specials.

Additionally, BBC America (which, I need to reiterate, is a business much like ITV and British Sky Broadcasting) actually co-funds some BBC productions such as Robin Hood.

So, y’know. Research.

Why also is it satisfactory for the BBC to use UK License holders money to spurn products for their own profit from the UK public, i.e. childrens toy product etc…?

Again, this is stuff that is all handled by the BBC’s business arms and is not funded by the money they get from the TV license, you frog’s gusset.

With the current economic state the country has been placed into, would it not enable families with a lower income to utilise the monies used for a TV License on more benificial items, i.e. feeding their family?

Considering that television is a luxury item and not a utility, they could always put the TV in the loft if they can’t afford their license.

Is it not fair to the other broadcast network’s such as ITV, Channel 4 etc… to not recieve monies from the TV License.

There is some debate about this, but once again it’s worth noting that ITV, Channel 4 etc. are supported by advertising. The BBC is not.

Thanks for playing.

Onlline petitions are a sign of the lapse of interest and general lethargy inherent in the british public. If you want to complain about something, get off your arse and do it properly.

Define “properly”. Also: Irony!

Just because some people don’t look over 25 they cannot buy alcohol or cigarettes. The legal age for purchase of both these products is 18. Please legislate to stop this discrimination and nannying.

Age verification is not discrimination. But then, what do you know? You keep getting the Obvious Alarm on QI.

By abolishing daylight savings time in the following way. Next summer time (2010)clocks go forward by one hour, repeat for another two years and never move the clock back. This will eventually lead to long summer days rdeucing the cost of lighting which will be positive for the environment. This will also reduce traffic collisions

I like the part where you suggest we abolish Daylight Savings, but everything else is just bollocks.

by Keith Harris

In a time of breakdown of family life, the government needs to look at stopping Bank Holiday trading. This year, more and more retailers are open longer hours over Christmas, using the excuse that December 26th is on a Saturday and trading normal hours. They are also treating December 28th and New Years day as normal trading days rather than open reduced hours. All these days, and other Bank Holidays should become trading free to allow more family time, which has all but been eroded by greedy high street retailers.

Yes, because being able to pop down to Wilkinsons and buy yourself a Snuggie is causing the very fabric of society to tear at the seems.

Sign of the Times

   Posted by: Ben Tags:

by Ian Rudge

An increasing number of stores are displaying prominent signs at checkouts reading “Under 25? ID Required!!!” or suchlike.

These signs are humiliating and degrading, and effectively brand such persons as second-class citizens.

Whilst we realise that there is a serious problem with underage drinking and knife ownership, signs of this kind are not the solution. In fact they may be exacerbating the problem by creating justifiable anger and resentment in persons of that age-group, who see themselves as being made outcasts from society.

A law is needed, banning any kind of signage in retail outlets which stigmatises certain age-groups.

This week’s Reject Rednesday takes place on a Saturday, because I want it to. So let us once again trawl through the ePetition site’s Reject Bin and pay heed to the braying and neighing of farmyard animals.

by Linda Homan (rejected)

Please stop all migrants entering the UK. This includes our European partners. Residents from Europe should be allowed in at the rate of one UK person leaving – let in someone from Europe. This is a small island that is already overcrowded and we are facing huge unemployment without additional people. The argument that migrants help with work can no longer be used. We the British people are not prejudiced. However, if we are to remain the great nation that we have always been, we need to stop the madness that migration is bringing all over this wonderful country of ours!

Yes, because the “madness” going on in the UK these days is solely because of people clawing their way onto our shores like mindless zombies, hungry for the brains of employment, nourished only by the knowledge that the job they’re doing now has been stolen from a hard-working Brit.

The problem with people like this is that they’re complaining about immigrants taking our jobs in one breath, and then decrying “Benefit Britain” in the next. The irony of this is just sickening.

by Paul booth

when analogue is turned off make it free for everyone to watch tv either through Sky,Virgin,Freeview Box,Tv with freeview included and a computer.Because people already pay enough subscriptions any how.

So it’s not just the TV license you want gone, you basically want to be able to watch everything, forever, for free.

Fuck off, Paul.

Age Ain’t Nutin’ But A Number

   Posted by: Ben Tags:

by Neil Gilroy

Working in retail can be stressful. This can often be caused by the work load itself but can be made worse when selling age restricted items. Many retailers may find it incredibly intimidating to ask for identification from a member of the public who doesn’t look 18 (for alcohol). I believe that by enforcing a “No ID, No sale” for every member of the public rather than a “No ID, No sale [unless you look over 25]” law would result in much fewer illegal sales to underage youngsters and would limit the number of threatening behavior retailers face also.

Furthermore, I would like to ask the Prime Minister to enforce a law that would ban supervisors and managers from over-ruling a customer assistants decision to refuse sale to a member of the public under age restricted circumstances.

I would suggest that if you’re not willing or able to ask for age verification before selling something to someone that perhaps you’re not cut out for a job in retail.

Cars Are Evil! Cars Are Bad!

   Posted by: Ben Tags:

by E Charrington of 1

Many car adverts encourage people to speed ‘with their cool image’ and this attitude can kill other people. It should not look cool to speed and drive recklessly. Cars also contribute towards obesity, congestion and pollution that causes cancers and lung diseases. Police, Ambulance and medical staff have enough to deal with as it is than have even more people on the road causing accidents.

Why not proceed to the next logical step and just ban cars entirely?

I’ll Eat My Hat

We believe that drivers should have unimpeded vision and that face coverings can cause a significant or potential loss of vision whilst operating a motorised vehicle. We believe this to present a risk of vision being obscured whilst the vehicle is in motion and an increased risk of accident, damage or even death.

In addition, we believe that in the event of an accident, it impedes the ability to identify the driver and could also prevent a Police Officer from effectively investigating a criminal offence if the face of the driver is covered. We point out the fact that there is no religious reason why a driver should drive with a full face covering and therefore on safety and security grounds, it should be banned by an act of law.

The racism in this petition is badly veiled – because, y’know, whenever anyone petitions for a ban on burkhas they’re actually saying “Hello, I am a racist” (and, of course, the URL for this petition kind of gives the game away here). In his haste to be a racist bastard he’s conveniently forgotten that motorbike helmets tend to obscure the face as well. Nicely done there, Mikey.

I would like you to ban airbrushing within magazines. I am a teenager living in the midlands, I am 15 years old, and I know many people(boys and girls, including myself) who are effected everyday by these perfect images of people. I know that this makes young people wish to be somthing that is unatatainable. This greatly lowers self esteem within the teenage population, and this has been proved to be a direct link to teenage pregnancy. I personaly think this is a very serious issue that must be addressed. if you aggree with me, please sign this petition.

I don’t care how old you are, or what you’re asking for a ban on – you are writing a petition to the Prime Minister. It wouldn’t kill you to check the spelling and grammar in your petition, for Glod’s sake.

All Smokers would like an area inside a pub to smoke. If this were possible trade would increase therefore less pubs would have to close. Also it is our right to smoke in a designated area INSIDE a pub. Rob Jefkins

My views on the smoking ban aside (and honestly, I’m not sure how I feel about it anymore), you don’t ban a law. You repeal it.
