The last Labour government introduced this act out of spite and perceived class hatred. It is not, and never was, anything to do with protecting animals. Why the contribution is important
This act has been proven to be unworkable.

Blimey, it’s cold! How cold is it? It’s so cold my family has been gathering around the freezer for warmth? Ba-dum-bum! I got a million of ‘em! Y’know what else I’ve got a million of? Petitions relating to the cold weather in some capacity. Won’t you read them with me? Because I’ll be damned if I’m going to read them on my own!
by Mr Michael RootsWe, the undersigned, wish the Government to implement as policy for teachers to report to their nearest school when the weather is snowy if they are unable to reach their usual place of work. Thus enabling more schools to remain open and consequently having less detrimental effect on the education of children by having fewer school closures
Ever stop to think that maybe the reason the schools are closed is not because the teachers can’t get to work, but because it’d be unsafe for the pupils to venture out into the weather to get there? No? Thought not.
by miss kelly johnsona lot of people are being penolised this winter for coming under weather stations that have not had a trigger of cold weather when in fact people that live miles away and come under it have seen temperatures fall below freezing surely this needs to be looked after or even give us all another one off payment like last jan to ensure we can put our heating on its not just elderley that suffer in winter it is sick and young children too and they dont recieve any extra winter fuel payments
And what exactly constitutes as “actual city temperatures”? Because I don’t think “my Nan’s thermometer says it’s below freezing” really counts.
by Malcolm SaggersDue to the lack of salt stocks in most areas central government seems to feel that they should now dictate who gets further stocks and has asked local councils to start rationing to maintain their stocks, do you think it right that central government should be telling local councils how to deal with icy roads/pavements in their local area? Surely central governments job is to ensure all local councils have what they need to deal with the current conditions without jumping in to ration salt stocks to areas who are obviously in need of essential gritting materials and equipment. Rationing does not solve the problems most councils are experiencing but could make it worse.
It sounds like you’re instead in favour of the Government keeping the supplies, and then when the cold weather snaps into place they simply transport the salt stocks to… uh… oh, I’ve spotted a potential hole in your plan.
by William CarverBritain is seizing up with the cold and many pavements and roads are iced up. We cannot expect local authorities to clear all this for us especially when grit is short. On the continent of Europe citizens clear pavements and roads of snow outside their houses and this makes walking and driving safer. It also prevents snow and ice build-up. We need reminding of this responsibility by government so we can get the country moving again and make it safer for pedestrians and road users.
“Hi, British public! It’s me! Gordon! I’ve got an idea for you all – why don’t you stand out in the middle of the road shoveling snow? Yes, I said the middle of the road. No, I don’t see any… oh, right. Yeah. Spotted it now. Thanks.”
by Councillor Richard DoddIn view of the recent adverse weather affecting the whole of the United Kingdom, permanent 4 wheel drive vehicles, such as Land Rovers, have proved invaluable to the community, in getting the elderly to hospital, taking rubbish collections to local refuse sites, rescuing ambulances on emergency calls and other motorists who have become stranded. It seems very unfair that these vehicles pay the highest in road fund licence when they are used to such a beneficial effect for the whole country. They have saved lives. In view of this, rather than being penalised, the owners of these vehicles should be rewarded for keeping the country going rather than being castigated as ‘Chelsea Tractors’, which vehicles such as Land Rovers are not, but essential tools, especially if you reside in rural areas.
This is, of course, ignoring the fact that the sort of tyres you need to be able to properly use a 4×4 in the UK are… banned from sale in the UK! So maybe you should write a petition about that first.

by Simon HaighIceland must repay the £2.3bn owed to British taxpayers which was loaned to the country by HMG following the failure of its banking system. Until the loan is repaid, the UK and Dutch governments must veto Iceland’s application to join the EU.
If every country with debts owed to another wasn’t allowed to get involved then the EU wouldn’t get anything done.
…Oh.

by kelly lawlerits a hard ,full time job being a parent and very rewarding too ,but its not fair how some parents have to struggle alone. most of us dont have help on hand and struggle to make ends meet. the absent parent should face a jail sentance if they dont pay for their children.the csa does not do enough and are lenient on the absent parent. this is wrong. you can go to jail for not paying council tax so why cant you go to jail for not paying child support? children are more important. it takes 2 to make a baby, you should not be allowed to run away from your responsibilty. pay or face jail !!!
And, what, once they’re in jail they’ll see the error of their ways and start paying, will they?

There’s a lot of stupid in this petition, but rather than make a snarky comment about it I’ll just let it speak for itself.
by Derek Green of Common senseI understand from the TPA that the government is now responsible for 50% of radio advertising revenue and, as a regular listener, I find most of this is pointless and futile. For instance, the current one about “benefit thieves” (doesn’t seem to be one for parliamentary expenses thieves, but there you go). Most people on benefits are honest people who find themselves having to claim them after years of paying into the system. When they then find themselves asked to survive on a measly £60 a week, who could blame them for doing a bit of work on the side? Those who are the scroungers and know how to work the system are running rings round the establishment and do you honestly think a radio ad is going to prick their conscience? All it is, is another empty gesture to give the impression that the government is doing something about the problem. It’s time to stop this waste of money, especially when they’ve just refused funding for another drug that would give cancer sufferers longer with their loved ones. They need to wake up and realise which areas they do need to cut back on expense. Please sign this and stop this waste of money on what is more or less propaganda.

by Antony CurranI would like the government to produce an advert similar to the one currently shown on TV aimed at benefit cheats but aim it at the millionaire and billionaire corporate sector informing them of the consequences of using offshore tax havens to avoid and evade tax and tell them they are being watched and will be caught. The advert should also portray the message that their actions are morally reprehensible and unwelcome in decent society.
Rich people don’t watch TV. They’re far too busy drinking wine and seeing operas and going windsurfing for that kind of thing.

Understand?
Yes! Abusive language! That’ll make the Prime Minister do things!

stop taking income tax on overtime worked. we work overtime to earn extra money to live and pay our bills and for the extra things we need and the government has the cheek to tax that as well, so we are still no better off why don’t you have done with it and just take the lot!
Income Tax, in case you are unfamiliar with the concept, is Tax on your Income. When you work overtime, you earn more income, and therefore you are taxed upon it. This is not a difficult concept.

the loving teachings and precepts of jesus christ have been withdrawn slowly but surely from society over the past 50 years to the detriment of us all.once his words and ways were revered admired respected and followed. now we have a moral vacuum, the prisons are over crowded, police over worked, probation service swamped social services drowing in paperwork while decency honesty loyalty care and fidelity, all the things that make the u.k a great place to live in a rubbished. the love of our saviour jesus christ is the answer and those who make his name real and relevant in our society need support from government before its too late.
Graham Kendall there, providing incontrovertible evidence that criminals only exist because Christianity isn’t as prevalent as it used to be.

What is interest but an unnecessary evil? The only people who profit from it are the rich.
If there was only £1 in the world and I borrowed it at 8% interest then WHERE do I get the additional 8 pence from? Interest charges are self defeating and cause suffering and poverty whilst benefitting the deceitful and barbaric individuals who ‘invent’ the money.
We as a (once) mighty nation need to stand up to the select few around the world and let them know what we think of their ‘money for/from nothing WITH interest’ ideas. There is NO requirement for interest to exist except to enrich people for doing little/no work and to continue the unnecessary enslavement of millions/billions of people.
I propose that interest be abolished. It would end ‘boom and bust’, rid us of the virus that is ‘inflation’ (devaluation of our currency) and provide each and ever individual the opportunity for TRUE stability in our short lives. Opportunities where we could thrive and accomplish without dragging a ball
You’re an idiot. Abolish interest charges and any incentive for banks and financial institutions to let you borrow their money vanishes instantly. Then nobody will be able to get a loan at all because no bugger’ll offer ‘em.

The Prime Minister has presided over the UK economy since 1997, yet we are currently facing the worst recession since the Second World War. His government bears some responsibility for failing to prevent this disaster. Labelling it as a global recession fails to accept Britain’s part, as the 5th largest economy and one of the world’s largest financial centres, in creating the crisis. We petition the Prime Minister to dispense with the customary caveat, accept responsibility and apologise for the damage he has caused to our economy.
Gordon Brown has been in power now for just under two years. I’m glad you’ve been paying attention to your Nation’s politics.
