by Shawn HardingI believe that teaching religion to children is child abuse as children are automatically programmed to learn whatever is done/taught by the parents no matter how wrong or right their ideology is.
Let them make up their own mind once they have reached the age of 10-12 when they can fully comprehend the religions for what they are and can interpret them as they see fit.
Actually, I disagree. I don’t believe teaching kids about religion is child abuse anymore than teaching children about ancient Egypt, or the Gods of ancient Greece. As long as it’s not taught in the place of Science, and as long as it’s made clear that the religious beliefs are just beliefs with no foundation of reality or fact behind them, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it.
Full Disclosure: I’m an Atheist. There is no God. Wheeeeeee!

by Jessie Russellevery one dissevers a chance in life…even animals! so why coop them up all day? they need to be free to make their full Potential so please sign this petition to free their lives…
I’m sharing this petition not because I have a problem with preventing cruelty to animals, but because I think the notion that being couped up on a box is the only thing stopping a chicken from writing an award-winning novel or from becoming a Fireman is a fundamentally comical one.
Of course, the obvious solution is this:
Posted by Andrew @ November 4th, 2009 6:02 pm. Filed under: In Which We Mock The Petition Site Itself,Maybe... but not for THAT reason,Wait a minute... this isn't a petition! —
The admins of the petition site have rejected the following petition, which I broadly support:
by Ted SmithAlan Johnson has stepped beyond credible remit as the Home Secretary to censor Scientific debate from the public sphere by his dismissal of the Chairman of the ACMD Professor David J Nutt MRCP MRCPsych FRCPsych FMedSci. Professor Nutt was making a valid point about the state of the classification system and he would defend this position in debate, providing evidence to support his statements. The Government, in particular Home Office ministers, have a record of brushing evidence aside in favour of a baseless agenda. This is not the way to restore trust in the Government.
They did so, because it overlaps with this one:
by Robert Moore
This latter petition I cannot support, because it’s almost certainly thinly veiled racism and therefore lands straight in the Maybe… but not for THAT reason category.
So effectively this means that we’re not allowed to petition the Prime Minister to remove Alan Johnson for any reason other than because we hate immigrants, until Moore’s petition closes on the 24th. I appreciate this decision was clearly taken by a web administrator rather than a minister, but it’s the kind of important detail someone should be keeping an eye on, or else the credibility of the whole site (such as it is) could be destroyed.

In addition, changing the clocks twice a year is a nuisance, costly, and error prone.
You seem to have forgotten a fundamental piece of information when considering your otherwise sterling idea, Tristan. I’ll leave you to figure out what it is.

Alright, but the hedgehogs aren’t allowed to sing anymore and have to read off chilling statistical data about road-related casualties and fatalities.

by Anna Billson-Page of Liberal PartyThe voting age should be reduced to 16 – not just to widen democracy but because it is an anomaly that young people who are old enough to pay tax to the government have no influence in electing that government.
Any ten year-old who’s walked to the local corner shop with a couple of quid in hand planning to buy sweets is technically a tax payer. Your logic is flawed.

This is probably a worthy cause, but really, I can’t sign this shit:
by Danny KellyWe call upon the Government to abolish the The Independent
Safeguarding Authority (ISA) as we believe we are parents,
guardians and carers first and foremost, and not paedophiles. We resent the premise that children will see adults as
potential abusers and every child is at potential risk.We resent the shift in balance from citizens proving to the
State they are not criminals. And why as parents and guardians can we not organise with our
clubs and societies to provide a lift to our children? Under
these new rules we are not allowed to take a group of children
to a sport or social event more than once a month
We are parents first, and paedophiles second!

Oh, hello again, Keith. You want your usual? And by “your usual” I mean “a long, mad, rambling rant about nothing wherein you demand something completely and totally Tonto”?
Our present band of elected representatives have demonstrated, quite admirably, that they consider themselves to be above what is going on in the country. It is immoral, and a fraud, for them to continue costing taxpayers as much during a time of recession as they do during a period of growth. Elected representatives should be forced to endure the same situation as the people funding them and make a contribution by reducing their number pro rata with the number of people who are unemployed. The cost of government burden upon the cohort of taxpayers should be lessened in line with the amount of money being taken in taxes from the fewer number of people who are actually paying taxes.
The question of not having a sitting MP in an area is not a consideration because the government are more than happy for Glasgow East not to have an MP through the summer period because they decided it was not important to hold an election in the normal time frame following the removal of Gorbals Mick – if they can be without an MP for five months then they can be without an MP until the recession is over!
I tried to translate this – it seems to boil down to “Oi, Gordon! People are losing their jobs, so Ministers should lose their jobs too!”. But then there’s all that gubbins about fraud and the Glasgow East MP and to be honest I didn’t finish reading it. Instead, I went into the kitchen and made a Pringles sandwich.

Don’t let the fox gaurd the chickens. giving more power to the banking elite will only end in a “bank of the world”, which we will have to pay carbon taxes on every part of our lifes.
That’s a pretty big logical leap to make there, Craig. What are you basing this on?

I would like to pertition to thte Govenment that British police should carry guns. I beleive that as English people, our police should carry guns. Situations arise in times of war which require a big change. So I think our police force should carry guns. Them only.
Whether or not British Police officers should carry guns or not is a debate in and of itself, but Lee’s “reasoning” – which consists of “I’m English!” and “In case you hadn’t noticed, there’s a war on” – is quite remarkable.

i would like the british government to make election nomination in terms of as one candidate needs only one nomination to accepted as a candidate for a general, local, euro election.
this will get more ppl into politics and also help ppl in death threat situations.
That’s… quite a dark turn to take in the last sentence, there.
