For example, if the predicted billions being given to banks to prop them up were diverted and given to private homes, and commercial/industrial premises as grants for insulation and micro generation (photovoltaic, solar water heating, ground source heat pump, air source heat pump, wind turbines, hydrogen generators, rain water collection, grey water recycling etc) as appropriate. This would make all properties carbon negative, producing more electricity and hydrogen gas than they need, and contributing to national grids for energy, and fuelling transport. With all these properties generating surplus power there would be no need for new nuclear PowerStation’s, freeing further billions of pounds for coastal protection against sea level rise, protecting millions of acres of housing, industry and agriculture. Defences like the Severn Barrage could also generate power. All this would create new industries making, installing and maintaining these systems, eliminating unemployment.

Since decimalisation in 1971 inflation has eaten away at the value of money and made the one penny and two pence virtually valueless. One penny in 1971 was worth about 11 pence in 2005 prices. I would like to ask the prime minister to abolish parking fees on meterd parking places everywhere in the UK. This would encourage people to come back to the city centres and begin shopping again. Parking fees for short trips into town centres only serve to discourage shoppers bothering at all. This would have a greater effect on kickstarting consumer spending than the 2.5% reduction in the VAT rate at a much lower cost. Most shoppers hate paying for parking. Allow everyone a maximum of 2hours with the same fines for exceeding the time limit. This would have the effect of increasing the “turnover” of shoppers and thereby increase consumer spending and perhaps add a little to the “kickstart” that the economy so badly needs. Sometimes it’s the little changes that make the big difference and so often go overlooked.

Britain’s history and culture is fantastic and unique. Much like the majority of people detest the Euro as a possible currency for Britain, the British pound is a fantastic part of our sovereignty and of our history and culture. We used to have such a fascinating and historic currency that was ditched for a decimal system (which is, in all fairness, much more practical). I suggest that we return Britain to the wonderfully nostalgic and unique system of half-pennies, farthings, sixpence and shillings. As a business man, having run my own business for 20 years. I know for certain if v.a.t was none existant the cost of living, would be reduced dramactically. To protect UK manufacturing jobs and the recession hit motor industry from complete collapse the Government must reduce the level of VAT on the sale of all new motor vehicles manufactured in the UK to 1%. This reduction must be fairly offered across the board to all vehicles regardless of engine size.

To avoid potential deflation while buyers wait for the reduction in the VAT payable the reduction must be backdated to January 1st 2009.

The reduction in the VAT burden on consumers is cheaper than paying for tens of thousands of people out of work claiming benefits and the collapse of the remaining manufacturing sector in the UK.

This reduction will demonstrate the Government is serious about protecting jobs and industry.

Hospital parking fees are nothing more then a tax on the sick. Many hospitals are situated out of town centres and the only way to reach them is by car. A democracy is a political system in which the supreme power lies in a body of citizens who elect people to represent (not control) them. But the problem we have is that the citizens have little control over what the Government actually does once elected. We vote in a party instead of specific policies. Enterprise Inn’s have announced that both Carlsberg draught and Castlemaine XXXX will be withdrawn from its supply list at the end of January next year.
In a letter to its 7750 licensees across the country, seen by The Publican, the company said the decision had been taken because“customers and retailers have moved away from these brands over the last few years.”
The letter received by pubs last week said Enterprise had conducted a review into its standard lagers, which shows the two beers were “no longer viable”.
The letter said: “As part of the review we have concluded it is no longer viable to offer Carlsberg Draught Lager and Castlemaine XXXX as the number of stockists and volumes have fallen to such a low level.”
My thoughts are with people like myself who rely on their regular customers, many of which are carlsberg and XXXX drinkers, of which will now go elsewhere where these brands are sold! In a very challenging market place with declining beer sales and pubs closing at a rate of around five a day, surely this is suicide to our establishments??

I believe that Giles Clarke has by his actions brought English Cricket into disrepute, by allowing the England Cricket Team to take part in a game soley for monetary gain rather than seeking to develop and further advance our great game. It is time to bring to an end to funeral expenses for everyone. It cost nothing to enter this world, then why should we fill the pockets of rich funeral companies? We have received calls from an overseas call centre claiming to be from a company called Money Management. We get about 3 calls a day trying to sell Individual Voluntary Agreements which they claim is part of a government scheme. They will not take no for an answer, they just keep calling. Because they are calling from abroad the TPS cannot help. They are harassing us and we can’t stop them!!

Local health centres and NHS medical practices should be banned from using 08 numbers or offer a local 01 or 02 number alternative for booking appointments, as health centres make a profit using these numbers. For example, an 0870 number costs 10 pence per minute (whereby 4.5pence per minute goes to the local hospital).

It is understandable that an amount of money has to be paid into the system to accomodate degree courses and the facilities that go along with them, such as libraries containing the latest reference materials and computing equipment. However it is unnacceptable that over a 3 year degree course the tuition fees can increase between each year. For example, in your first year a course can cost £3070 however in your second year it can be increased to £3145. Students are at university to improve their future prospects but are not given the best start to their future with at least £9000 worth of debt on their shoulders. This is only on a 3 year course, there are many courses that last a few years more and therefore carry more debt, this should be changed.

Currently, peak commuter traffic and commercial goods vehicles use the UK road network at the same time. This has lead to an increase in ‘side swipe’ incidents as a result of inappropriate overtaking manoeuvres by heavy vehicles and congestion as a result of low heavy vehicle speeds, low overtaking speed differential between heavy vehicles and slow acceleration of heavy vehicles. Surely separating commuter traffic from commercial goods traffic by timing is a sensible and sustainable method of lowering UK road traffic incidents and easing UK road network congestion?

Direct mail campaigns are – in all their forms – an intrusive component of advertising, which is regularly forced into our households. There should be a point where citizens are legally permitted to refuse these items. It is a wasteful and invasive practice, yet still, these items are being littered into people’s homes daily.

we are required to wear seat belts in cars and on buses now.we cant even stand in footballgrounds any more so how do all major rail companies get away with charging full price tickets for people who need to stand on trains. these trains travel in excess of 100 mph and on a recent experience from aberdeen to manchester the whole train was absolutely packed.it will take a few people to die before this government actually does any thing about it as always.

The passion of England football fans is world famous. They sing their country’s National Anthem like no other fans. They devote huge amounts of effort and money to follow the England team around the world.

We urge the Prime Minister to persuade the FA to hold an England charity football match on St. George’s Day – England’s National Day.

I have recently been disgusted with the number of crimes against children and our vulnerable members of society, which are hitting our headlines at the moment, and the seemingly soft sentences dished out to the sadists and peadophiles who commit these crimes. I had a serious cancerous condition on my vocal chords caused by smoking, I had to stop smoking but I didn’t want to as I enjoyed it. My doctor warned me that if i continued smoking I would have ended up having my vocal chords removed, most likely within a year. I stoped smoking succesfully but every time I see someone smoking on the television, it makes me want to smoke again. I am scared that I will loose my will power and eventually give in to this. For the health of myself and other people could you please try to put an end to showing smoking on the television.

The TV licence players deserve more, ALL BBC dvd’s should be available for £1.99 or max £2.99 to licence fee payers. Start this before Christmas and it could kick start the economy with DVD sales and make a happy Christmas for all. Mr Brown, I and the other petitioners ask of you to add and make this in law and make the BBC give us something back for our money.

Due to the current ecomonic down turn does the prime minister not think it would make sense to give the hard working people of this country an income tax holiday. This would be an easy way to prevent Christmas from being a disaster for the high street.

As a pupil, I am simply appalled that instead of actually learning English grammar at GCSE level (with Edexcel at least) we are only required to analyse stories and poetry; write to describe, review and argue; and write about non-fiction texts.
I do not disagree with these current aspects of the syllabus, but I ask that the examination syllabi be more thorough in their examining.
A separate section which tests basic understanding of correct grammar and spelling would be a fantastic way to help stimulate our amazing language. I cannot see how some persons manage to cope with the detailed essay writing required without having a section on grammar.
I know it may seen very pedantic, but it simply infuriates me when people do not use the subjunctive mood correctly, or punctuate in the wrong places.
It is all right when people do these things accidentally, but I know for a fact that young persons nowadays are simply ignorant of correct grammar because it is simply not taught fully.
I hereby suggest that the Government ask the examination boards to make sure that they include a comprehensive grammar section which includes all the nuances of our mother tongue.

The more money bosses can save by scrapping overtime, xmas bonuses and other rewards to staff are then given to these bosses at the companies and employees expense. Bosses should not be allowed to gain personally by taking away from his or hers employees. Also to stop companies being allowed to change an employees contract by just giving the appropriate notice.

Many families are made up with children, each with a different father. Fathers of those children must be identified because unless identified their child’s support is covered by our social system and the fathers are free to father other children causing further cost to the tax payer in general.

Our aim is to preserve the innocence of children.
This means that all sex and intimate relationship education is the responsibility of parents and not schools. Sex education stimulates curiosity and destroys innocence, and can lead to experimentations. It is not a satisfactory option to allow individual children to be withdrawn from the lessons because these topics become a seemingly acceptable conversation for the playground to which all children are exposed.

Too many people are in debt at the moment, and with the ever increasing cost of living, personal debts are spiralling out of control.

I am calling for an amnesty on debt, whereby 50% of all personal debt is written off for people willing to make regular and timely payments on the remainder of the total balance.

Need I say more, it’s obvious that if VAT is cut this will affect everybody, cutting the interest rate only affects people with a mortgage. For everyday people trying to afford groceries etc, this is a must. Money needs to be saved for everyone 17.5% is a joke!! Look at the other countries!!!

In recent weeks it has emerged that media coverage of a story resulted in many people making complaints about a radio show that the vast majority hadn’t even tuned in to. As a result the programme in question was axed. As the story unfolded it would seem that with the media manipulation it was taken out of all perspective. Now, those listeners who tuned in every week were denied their choice of how TV licence money was spent. A support group was set up on a social networking site to match the number of complaints, which it did and more. But,the authorities have chosen not to recognise this public opinion and have dismissed the group as misguided youths. I would like to see more respect for the online community and the numbers of people who set up support groups, these numbers should be taken into consideration for reporting procedures.

The people are fed up with the attitude of the banks, we have helped them through a tough time and have had NO! reward in return, on our loans or mortgages. We want the desission reversed give us our money back or give the people the interest the banks are earning on what they have been given from us.

With declining standards in TV/radio, channels are now airing explicitly sexual shows of a pornographic nature. Virgin 1’s ‘Sexcetera’/ Channel 4’s ‘Sex Education Show’ are examples, whilst so-called comedy like ‘Little Britain’ & similar are filled with crude, smutty innuendo. Media glorifies violence/immorality as ‘cool’ & to be aspired to, influencing young minds & doing nothing to discourage today’s gang culture. We don’t want these shows even AFTER the watershed. We’re told if we don’t like it, then switch off! This allows standards to further degrade. We demand a return to decency/morality by broadcasters. The supposed defence that censorship is ALWAYS wrong, doesn’t stand up to scrutiny. Society censors behaviour all the time. If not, why have laws, as all behaviour, even murder, would be OK! The constant drip of immoral/indecent viewing/listening material, can & does lower society’s standards too. This is not a simplistic conclusion. It’s common sense!

The BBC dont show averts due to us paying a licence fee. ITV show adverts to create revenew. ITV dont get any licence Fee money. BskyB however make you subscribe for channels then hound you with commercials making millions both way its unfair and unjust. BskyB should do one or the other not both.

The only way we can protect our children from abuse and incense, is to for social service to monitor every child from birth until the age of sixteen. The social worker could be responsible for a maximum of six children and provide detailed reports on each child. In the long term this would save social services and the tax payer time and money.

The campaign to move Christmas, is our way of beating the so called Credit Crunch. Moving Christmas to the 29th February should give people longer to recover from the massive financial burden inflicted on them by this annual event.

BRITISH service personel are being discriminated against because of what they do for a job. I would like to see something done about it. In the U.S.A the troops are loved and are shown appreciation where as here in our home country we are discrinated against.

The clocks should not go back in the winter they should be left alone so that it remains lighter at night.

Millions of adults appear to lack even the most basic cooking skills and we need a radical solution to break this cycle.

The Proposal:

1. Get a group of the most popular and trusted chefs (including Jamie Oliver and Delia Smith,for example) to come up with a small number of VERY easy to cook,healthy yet tasty recipes. Simple classics,nothing fancy. Trial them to make sure they are genuinely popular among all social groups. Choose, say, ten, then call them “The Ten” or something,and get witty adverts everywhere promoting the project.

2. Blitz the country with lessons on cooking “The Ten”. Teach ALL secondary school kids, maybe in restaurant kitchens if schools can’t do it. Give them for school dinners and invite the parents in. Get parents in to learn with their kids in the evening. All free.

3. Get all supermarkets to have “The Ten” ingredients all in one prominent place- they could of course brag about having “The Best Value Ten” or “The Organic Ten” or whatever . People might buy them just out of convenience.

4. Every 2 or 3 years there could be a vote of some kind on which recipes to drop/ add.

Resources are scarce while human wants are insatiable giving rise to oppoptunity cost. Food, shelter,warmth, clothing and justice are accessible only with Money. If you don’t have Money you can’t have them.

In these difficult times, and for a limited time only, reduce the jackpot amount and payout a minimum of £1000 for anyone matching 3 numbers and £10,000 for matching 4 numbers or some other not insignicant amount. There must be some way of juggling the revenue so that Camelot profitability, good causes and HM revenue and customs are not penalised. Let’s increase consumer confidence, the feel good factor and help families reduce household debt.

If a car sales man were to write a message on the windscreen of his cars “This car can cause damage to health and even death” he wouldn’t be allowed to sell it to the general public. If the food and drinks industry were to do like wise that the consumption of their food and drinks can cause serious damage to health and even death, their products would be withdrawn from all the shelves and on it goes for every industry. Retailers would just not be allowed to sell such products to the general public. Yet, the Government actually states on every cigarette packet that “This is a Government health warning: cigarettes can cause serious damage to health and even death” and then allows it to be sold through every outlet. It is allowing faulty and dangerous goods to be sold generally with full knowledge. Revenue received by the Government from the cigarette industry is an odious resource. Surely, the Government can be prosceuted.

Many service personnel are affected by the travel time to their home town when returning from active service in the conflicts we are currently involved in. Journey time should be allowed and R/R should start from an estimated time they arrive in their home town. Personnel who are not UK based are also at a disadvantage as they often have a couple of days of travel which is at times taken from their allocated R/R.

think that we should break all economic and security alliances with the USA and concentrate on alliances with EEC countries particularly France and Germany.

Continuing instability in the City can only be attributed to sanctioned speculative activity in financial organisations. Such activities undermine and could permanently damage the economic well-being of the United Kingdom. These activities should be classified as economic terrorism and the Terrorism Acts invoked to deter these greedy, self-serving profiteers.

Ensure that a fairer tax system is put in place. One based purely on income is much fairer than one based on property as many people inherit property while still earning minimum wage. Why should someone earning £12,000pa pay the same tax as someone earning £120,000pa purely based on their property? Its time to get this country growing again, instead of the imminenet recession we are all now facing due to failures within the government, or perhaps the rich are still getting favours if they offer funding which would explain the current status of our great country.

While the foundation of the economy is a sound banking system we believe that banks that are bailed out should not be allowed to charge subscription fees to customers as this would in effect mean that the customer is being charged twice and that this is unfair.

This ban should last until their loan is repaid in full

Each individual opens an account with UK Government- be it Bank of England or National Insurance office or Tax Office. Salary payments are sent to that account. Mortgage, utilities and telephone are paid by direct debit only from this account. Surplus cash may be paid little or no interest- most individuals will have limited funds in this account any way.
Savers will transfer funds to banks to earn higher returns and will bear the risks associated with that. Banks will provide loans including mortgage and it will borrow from the central pool. Data protection is key and will be kept in UK and the service provider will not have access to the data. Set up taskforce now.

Peter Mandelson will continue to receive taxpayer-funded EU pay worth £234,000 over three years – in addition to his annual ministerial salary of £104,386 despite giving up his post as Trade Commissioner. This is not acceptable in the current economic climate because it adds insult to injury to the tax payer who is bailing out banks and funding his pay. It smacks of greed

The average households debt is £35,000

It would cost around 1 trillion to liquidate us all.

The banks would receive over 1 trillion in REAL money

The people of Britain would be debt free and able to move freely. Which translates as spend more freely.

There would be no risk involved in re-couping tax payers money.

Lots of people would be very happy.

If that sounds ridiculous – mainly because of the huge unforeseen amounts of cash that would be required in reality, then consider the fact that 700 billion as proposed by the US – will be a drop in the ocean. Wall street traders in the know say that there are as yet Trillions of hidden $s still waiting to surface and are currently not recorded and/or are hidden from regulators.

Does this still sound like such a useless idea?

There have been a few news stories where people have been persecuted for displaying Golliwog dolls in their windows. A Golliwog is a soft toy which used to have a place in British society – it’s part of our history not a soft-toy of hatred.

In one case a mother got in trouble because her daughter displayed the doll in her window. She got visited by the police!!

If the Golliwog is a symbol of hatred then so too should be any/all religious idols. I have no faith so when I see a religious idol on display it offends me – can I then tell the police and have them get the owners to take it down? What about Action Man – he’s racist against white people because he looks like a football hooligan, let’s make him a symbol of hatred too.

A hatred rule should be a universal rule – not discriminatory.

Stop picking on the Golliwog.

In recognition of the anti-social behaviour of senior bankers in the UK in the last 15-20 years the State should show its displeasure by rescinding and withdrawing all honours bestowed on individuals for their services either to banking or to financial services generally. Altruism rather than individual greed and social fear should be the guiding principles behind the award of all honours in the future.

Most of the UK companies are now doing outsourcing/offshoring, and this is having a negative impact on the struggling economy.

Should the Gov. put a CAP on outsourcing/offshoring or some other solution which forces companies to go for UK base employees and not become greedy like bankers and think only about themselves and their shareholders. Also, to avoid possible unemployment damage in the near future as this will only create a burden on the government to pay salary to the unemployed.

There have been several worrying cases of anti-terror legislation being used inappropriately, but the freezing of Icelandic assets is a watershed case in which any pretence of relevance has been deemed unneccesary. We now know that these sweeping powers can be used against anybody for any reason without shame.

With the recent “credit crunch”, and bail out of banks, Messers Brown and Darling have used taxpayers money to buy shares in certain banks and as he has said we will all be shareholders, I feel that we should be issued share certificates to that end.

Banks are now in the position where it matters not how they perform, the taxpayer will pick up the tab. No mention has been made of safeguarding against directors awarding themselves huge bonusses out of the taxpayer guarantee. Investors who went offshore for higher gains are also being offered compensation. Why are these greedy people not being asked to repay the high gains they got, before asking for taxpayer money to be handed out to them. The taxpayer MUST be given an opportunity to state they either do or do not support this position. The government keeps spouting that these are unusual times. The government should take the unusual step, therefore, of allowing the people who it will affect most the choice of putting a stop to it by giving them a legally binding referendum, immediately.

When the governing political party changes is leader which results in a change of prime minster then the new prime minister should be required to hold a general election within 91 days of taking office. In the event that the change is due to sudden serious ill health or death of the previous prime minister then subject to parliamentary approval then the general election can be delayed for 91 days

Everybody I talk to is fed up of the greed the celebrities of the world have. They spend without thought for anyone worse off than themselves. They then have the cheek to front televised ‘phone-in’ charity programs asking the general public to part with money they haven’t got. We all sympathise with all these great charities but there shouldn’t be any need for them as the total value of the world’s rich list would cancel out any charitable need without trying. We want to see most if not all of the celebrities in this country giving to these charities before they call on the hard up and make them feel guilty.

Too many companies are now abusing this word, typically these are companies offering internet services. An example would be of Company A offering mobile/home broadband with unlimited usage. Then in the terms & conditions there will be a clause that restricts the customer to download only 1Gb of data per month.

This is NOT unlimited.

Unlimited is defined as being: not limited, infinite or unrestricted.

If no current law prevents this, then one should be made to cover this grey area.

The current drug laws are flawed in that certain drugs such as alcohol and tobacco are perfectly legal, where as other drugs that are less harmful than these two are illegal. This undermines the message that drugs are harmful, as the users are fully aware that the scientific community consider drugs such as ecstacy and cannabis to be of equal or less danger than alcohol or tobacco. This makes illegal drugs seem harmless, and the drugs laws seem ridiculous. We propose that the government stregthen its chosen message by either:

a) Illegalising alcohol, tobacco and any other considerably harmful intoxicating substances and introducing them to the current ABC classification system.

OR

b)Legalising those drugs that are less harmful than alcohol or tobacco, based on an evaluation by professionals in the appropriate field (not the clouded opinion of MPs, which is has been the faliure on other similar attempts).

Make it illeagal for a company not to respond to a job aplication or to respond with no valid reason. this will stop all of the illeagal age,racial discrimination when applying for jobs

To petition the Government to nationalise all student debt.

We note that the Government has nationalised the debt of banks that have run into financial difficulty, and believes that graduates should be afforded the same treatment.

Graduates pay an extra 9% tax on all their income over £15,000 leaving many struggling to pay housing costs and bills.

Graduates currently owe the Government in excess of £16bn — far less than the total used to nationalise either Northern Rock or Bradford and Bingley.

Therefore graduate debt should be written off and all fees cancelled for current students.

The amount of homework children receive from school should be reduced due to the school leaving age being raised to 18 years old. Children spend on average 6 hours a day in school, and an extra couple of hours doing homework. Attending school for 6 hours a day of a childs life is enough, rather than the additional homework and the recent push up to an extra year of school whilst you’re in your adult years. You can get married and have children by that age, could you find enough time for excessive piles of homework stacking up on your desk?
