by James Magill (rejected)At the moment everybody gets charge by the telephone companies if they have to issue a ‘Paper Bill’ but if you have a Computer and are connected to the Internet you can get this bill on line at no charge. What about the 1000s who have not got a Computer, eg our Senior Citizens and those of us who are unemployed to mention a few?
They get charged the £1.50 paper bill fee. Are you not paying attention?

by Mr D Morris (rejected)This policy would increase taxation so cutting the deficit, solve the problem of the aging society, reduce the state pension black hole, and enable private pension companies to increase their pensions due to the shortening of life expectancy, while protecting jobs in the tobacco industry.

Thank you

by Bryan GibbsWe believe that, if all of the above points are taken into account, it may well be the Government & taxpayer are the overall winners as it is likely there is an overall NET gain. To raise the qualification age and/or to reduce TRUE levels of funding, would be “to cut off one’s nose to spite one’s face”. Any such action would appear to be an act of economic MADNESS: a failure to look at the OVERALL PICTURE; allowing tunnel vision by one department ONLY looking at its own budget.
Talking with friends & neighbours, who use the scheme, have said they would travel less frequently, thereby leading to REDUCED ECONOMIC ACTIVITY. The cost of a bus ticket is a small amount when compared to the spend that is likely when the visit is made. ONLY the PRIME MINISTER is in a position to take an OVERALL VIEW in this situation.
Yes! Not providing the elderly with free bus passes will surely lead to an ECONOMIC MELTDOWN, the likes of which no man has EVER SEEN. Truly, it would take an ABSOLUTE MORON not to see the obvious facts in FRONT of them, unless they were to sit down and do the MATHS at which point it becomes pretty CLEAR that Mr. Gibbs is talking out of his ARSE.

No. And, y’know, for someone so old you have a terrible grasp of grammar.

by Sue CherryOver 4 million cheque payments are made each day and many people not only prefer to pay for goods and services in this way it is the only way, other than cash, that some services can be paid for. Some of Britain’s most vulnerable people, including many elderly, disabled and housebound people, rely on cheque payments as a means of goods and service payment and will be greatly marginalised. Many small businesses, charities and local community organisations do not have electronic facilities for payment receipt and will be at risk.
One could argue that this is why they’re making the change in nine years’ time as opposed to, say, killing cheque payments overnight.

Hello Margaret King. What stupid thing do you want now?
by Margaret KingNot to do this can cause immense anxiety to people who may be affected by these announcements. For instance one of the provisions in the Budget of 9th December was to raise the age at which pensioners could get concessionary travel (i.e. Freedom Passes); these passes expire on 31st March so, as someone who holds such a Pass (which is very useful in getting around London especially since I can’t drive), I suffered a lot of anxiety wondering whether I would be affected.
I did phone Age Concern, and my Local Authority Accessible Transport office, but neither could give me any definite information probably because, as stated in the petition title, the details hadn’t been worked out! This is just one issue I know about, because it affects me personally, but there must be many more which potentially affect a considerable number of people.
So basically, you’d like the government not to tell us what they’re up to until they actually do it. Doesn’t that strike you as, I’unno, incredibly fucking dangerous?

by MR PAUL HODGKINSONAll people should be allowed to drive between the ages of 16 – 70 in the UK. There is now free transportation on trains/buses for old people so the licence should be removed/handed in at the age of 70! This would allow the working people to use the roads – reduce traffic on the highway – lower the amount of fumes that harm children in cities. The “Old Driver” often goes along extra slow causing a hazard and is very unaware of the modern traffic conditions.
What a kind, considerate human being you aren’t.

“Why die in front of the fire, a warm cup of tea by your side and your favourite program on the telly,” asks Hannah Lane, “When you can get blown up by terrorists in the Middle-East?”
“Because,” cries every old person in the entire fucking Universe, “We’re not fucking stupid.”

by Margaret KingEither people over the age of 80 do need more money or they don’t. If they do the amount of increase needed should be far more than 25p; what can you buy with that? If they don’t this increase should be stopped.
An increase of 25p per week is pointless; it must cost far more to administer than can possibly be justified by any benefit to individual pensioners. It might have been worth something when it was instituted but, like the £10 Christmas bonus, it has completely lost its value.
So, hang on. Your argument is basically, “Old people deserve more money, so take away the increase you’ve already given them”? I know 25p isn’t a lot but your reaction is a mite over-the-top, isn’t it?

The government has announced it wishes to bring Broadband to every household in the UK. It wishes to help subsidise this by introducing a 50p per month tax on every landline in the UK. Why should I, as a broadband customer already paying £25 per month pay even more to provide low speed broadband to areas where people may not even want it. Why should OAP’s who need their landlines as an essential safety measure pay to subsidise broadband. Let the companies who stand to make the profits from this scheme pay for it.
It’s 50p a month, you dick! Even OAPs can afford that!
“Superfast broadband” should only be allowed to describe super fast broadband. i.e. Sweden’s 1gbit lines are “superfast”. Their 100mbit download and upload lines for about £15 are “fast” BT’s plan of 60 down / 5? up isn’t superfast. It’s not even really that fast. “Semidecent broadband” would be a much more honest term to use.
This is a very serious issue.

Slipper health and safety:- Currently indoor slippers are not regulated with regards sole performance. I recently had an iccident caused by a lack of traction between my slipper sole & carpet, causing the slipper to uncontrollably slide along the carpet until a painful incident occurred.
On inspecting slippers for a ‘certificate of performance’ & none found. I am informed there is no requirement for performance testing & approval of slipper soles. This is very serious loophole with regards health & safety. Many elderly UK citizens use slippers, a fall to these citizens would be far more distressing.
Speaking with many I have been surprised at the amount of interest generated. Some have thought the subject humorous, until they thought the issue through & agreed with me. I was assured they would be inspecting the slippers of family members.
Modern man-made carpet & slipper material may have aggravated the issue of traction, although I must stress I am no expert in this area.
What is required: A ‘British Standard’ of some sort to assure a purchaser that the slipper sole performs properly in normal use & ask that the prime minister look into this as a matter of urgency.
What amuses me is that Richard very clearly takes this issue incredibly seriously.
