Someone decides to have sex, they should live with the concequences. Abortion should be banned for all social economic reasons.

Life is a sacred thing, whether you believe it is from God or not, people these days think that you just pop-out of the womb on the day you are born, but it starts before that within the womb.

If people disagree with banning Abortion for social economic reasons, could they please explain why it is differnt to killing a 5 year old because they are not an Adult yet?

Abortion is just legalised mass murder, wrapped up to make everyone feel good about it.

Why the contribution is important
Why should an innocent unborn child be murdered simply because of a “bad” choice to have sex?

Why should the taxpayer pay for this? And for the clumsy decisions of others not to use protection?

Why the contribution is important
The right to life is a fundamental human right. The unborn are human. At the moment of conception they become, by any reasonable definition, human. They are genetically members of the species homo sapiens, and between that moment and birth, there is no clear dividing line when a change occurs. If there is no clear dividing line, then no change occurs (if it is illegal to kill at some precise moment and not before, that must be because a significant change occurs at that moment).

It follows that to kill the unborn is murder, and the clear denial of that unborn child’s right to life. We will not execute murderers and rapists because of this principle, but we will inflict a particularly brutal killing on defenceless, innocent children. This is unnacceptable in any society that aspires to be civilised.

let’s ignore all of the bollocks pseudo-science and half-arsed presumptions in these petitions and jump to the crux of the matter: making abortion illegal.

What about where protection is used? What about rape? What about incest rape? What about instances where the baby won’t survive childbirth? What about instances where the mother won’t survive childbirth? What about where the baby will be born without a brain? Or, rather simply, what if the woman simply isn’t ready to be a mother? It’s her body, her choice, and she shouldn’t be forced into motherhood against her will, be it because she was attacked in the park or because she just doesn’t want to have kids.

Even taking all of these variables out of the picture, making abortion illegal isn’t going to help. The women that want abortions are still going to find ways of getting them, being it going abroad to somewhere else in Europe where it’s still legal. Or, if that’s not an option, they’ll seek out a “back alley abortion” where statistics show they will, in fact, wind up dead.

So, long story short, it seems AndyCC and ngreer hate women, they don’t think a woman is entitled to ownership of her own uterus.

remove those parts of the 2006 Sexual Orientation Regulations which are forcing Mike and Suzanne Wilkinson to run their private, family guest house, in such a way that it violates their moral conscience and undermines the distinct Christian ethos of their business.

by David skinner (rejected)

Though in no way wishing to take away the liberty of homosexuals to access homosexual friendly guest houses, of which there are many, we believe that to force Mr and Mrs Wilkinson to conform to the tastes and lifestyle of homosexuals is discriminatory and is a blatant contradiction of the Equality Bill. Our British inheritance to be able to live and speak, according to our conscience, privately and in the public sphere, without harassment or the fear of civil or criminal penalty, is a freedom that once distinguished us from all other nations. This liberty did not come cheaply but cost the lives of our forebears and ancestors. Sadly today it is treated with such contempt by a government that continues to bind us in an ever growing cancerous growth of legislation.

As people from all walks of life, political parties, religious faiths and none , but still broadly speaking, citizens of a Christian country, we the undersigned have joined together to stand foursquare with Mr and Mrs Wilkinson in defence of their beliefs and civil liberties.

There’s a sort-of wonderful, ignorant irony in David bringing up the Equality Bill when Mr and Mrs Wilkinson are sort-of contravening the Equality Bill themselves by forbidding homosexuals from using their establishment.

He obviously feels very strongly about this, considering he submitted this and two other near-identical petitions about this very subject. He seems to think that the ideals of people who believe in a magical space wizard are more important than the ideals of people who happen to be in love, irrespective of what their genders may be. In fact, looking at a previous petition of his we featured some time ago, he seems to think that religious ideals (specifically his ideals, which happen to be Christian) trump all other ideals, beliefs and lifestyles. For that reason, he is a cunt.

That’s not a word I use often. It’s not a word I even like using. I have a particular disdain for that word, but then I also have a disdain for people who think that their imaginary friend is more important than… well, than anything else. That makes him a cunt. He is a cunt. David Skinner, who is a cunt, is a cunt.

I honestly can’t understand how someone can think that their God, whom they believe in despite the lack of any evidence, is more important than the love between two people of the same gender, which they refuse to believe in despite the overwhelming evidence presented.

Garry Smith is a forward thinker. And by that I mean he looks at the future of the EU and thinks to himself, “It’s full of foreigners!”

And the notion of adding more foreigners to the ever-growing throng does not fill him with the warm fuzzies.

Block the entry of Turkey into the EU.

by Mr Garry Smith

Block Turkey entering into the EU. 1) Human rights in Turkey are not up to recognised EU standards and may never be despite any promises. Turkey has reluctantly agreed to end its death penalty in a bid to join the EU, but only in peacetime, and this is a country that has had to be forced to outlaw people smuggling to join the EU, it has had to be forced to outlaw this despicable act, it wouldn’t have outlawed it on its own. Turkey is not part of Europe, it is in the Middle East, and has its borders with Iraq, Iran & Syria, who next to join, Iraq or Iran or Syria or all 3? 2) The EU club is big enough and not one British citizen (except the PM) has ever been given the vote for this to happen 3) This will cause an influx of Turkish people to the UK as happened with Poland 4) The majority of British people do not want the EU any larger or Turkey to join it. 5) Its about time the PM went with the majority in his own country and not because it makes him look popular in Europe.

Ah, the “slippery slope” argument. “If Turkey get in, that means Iraq, Iran and Syria will all want to get in! At the same time! They’ll all get stuck in the door as they try to come through! It’ll be anarchy!”

Did Turkey have to be forced to stop capital punishment and bring in tougher laws against human trafficking? Maybe. Sometimes people need to have their arms twisted to do what is ultimately best for them. But to dismiss their entire worth as a nation because of it? To say that they may never reach EU standards? That’s an impressive piece of dickery, Mr. Smith.

Also, I hate the arrogance of assuming that every bloody thing that happens in Parliament or in the EU needs to be voted for by the British public. Personally, I’m overjoyed that “not one British citizen (except the PM) has ever been given the vote for this to happen”, or indeed for any other manner of thing to happen. If the British public were able to vote on every major thing to happen to the UK then they wouldn’t be part of the EU in the first place, nor would gay couples be able to have civil partnerships. Women probably wouldn’t be able to vote, either. And you know why? Because people like things the way they are. Oh yes, there are individuals and groups who rally for social change, but the masses are quite content to plod along in their uneventful little lives, going to their uninteresting jobs, eating their decidedly dull meals and watching their wholly bland but remarkably high-definition televisions.

But of course, this doesn’t have anything to do with any of those points, does it? It’s more to do with the fact that if Turkey gets into the EU Turkish citizens will be able to come and go from the UK as they please. They’ll be able to move here, seek employment, start businesses, own property, just like the Polish. And you don’t like the Polish, do you Mr. Smith? Oh no, of course not. They’re not local. They talk funny, and have strangely uniform haircuts, and eat pastries with odd names spelt with bizarre letters that look like they might be good, sturdy, British letters. But they’re not! And the worst thing about the Polish? They’re white. You can’t even identify them by sight. Anyone you know could be Polish. You could be living next door to a Pole right now and have absolutely no idea!

What this boils down to, Mr. Smith, is your deeply-rooted racism and distrust of anyone who isn’t from a town you can pinpoint on a map of the Great British Isles.

I’m just speculating, obviously.

We as a history class in Wales have decided that the word clapter should be a real word. After taking it upon myself to research the word I could not find any definition in the dictionary but I did find a reference to the word ‘clapter’ in a book written by Amanda Filipacchi in her novel written in 1993 called ‘Nude Men’.

We do not imprison people standing up for war heroes and pensioners’ rights in this country, we should be giving them medals. Gordon Brown should recognize Nick’s heroic stance for liberty and personal freedom and release him immediately, reprimanding the over-officious council and judge for their mediaevil attitudes!
It’d be hypocritical of me to point out the people complaining about the 50p broadband tax and then turn around and say this idea here is ridiculous. That being said, cyclists account for a virtually negligible amount of wear and tear on city streets. £10 seems disproportionate to the amount of damage we’re doing, especially when you consider that one car alone pumps out twelvety-thousand billion billion yards of greenhouse gases a day.
So what you’re effectively saying is that right now there is an entire group of road-users that you have zero respect for? I’m fairly confident that you’re supposed to respect each and every road user, there. Is this grounds for having Ron Meikle’s license revoked? I say “Yes,” and I’m not just saying that because I’m a cyclist.

MP’s are and should be Representatives of the people and should be the voice of the people too However, They have now stopped listening to the public and it is now time for the government to impliment a Californian style of governance so that each and every bill is put before the public as propositions that the public vote on. Now is the time for imigration, Bailouts, Budgets, Taxes, Law and order, Europe and all things that impact on the public to be decided by the public not MP’s Whom are there only to line their own pockets raping and pillaging the taxpayer yet they do not speak for the public that voted them into power. Billions of £’s wasted on bailouts Cuts in Public services because of bad management of public funds and out of control imigration are only a small number of the reasons it is now time for the PM to be strong, Prove he is not weak and to change government policy before the next General election and impliment this into law so We the Public will be voting knowing we will be heard.

I live in Los Angeles (that’s in California, in case you were wondering) and I have to say: No, no, a thousand times no. The problem with this system – that is, handing the decision over to the public, putting them in charge of what people can and can’t do – is that they often try to think about what’s right for them as individuals and not what’s right for them as a whole. Elected officials are elected on the understanding that they will do what is best for their constituency. They don’t always remember this, and they certainly don’t always get it right, but they more or less get the job done.

I am terrified of what would happen if you were to hand that power over to the British public. Absolutely terrified.

I feel everyone should get EMA, as we are all in education and trying to make something of our lives and we need money to supply things such as travel fayres and coursebooks. I do not think it’s fair also that those on jobseekers allowance that are not getting out there and actually searching for jobs are earning around £100 every two weeks which is what i earn in 5 (I am on £20 a week EMA). I feel EMA should be increased to the same amount as job seekers over the two weeks and everyone in full time education should receive this and not at subsidised amounts depending on what parents earn. It’s not parents that go to college is it? It’s us young people who need to buy our own equipment and travel fayres. I just feel that people when they actually get jobseekers allowance spend it on alcohol and not things which they actually need anyway and taxpayers such as my parents are benefitting their drinking fund with money that could go on my education. I do hope you take note of this petition as young people never really get a say and the chance to show how they feel.

Congratulations for completely failing to understand how EMA works, what it’s for, and what you as a young person should be expecting from the government. I’m trying to work out whether you should spend more time in College or whether it’s simply a waste of time for you.

What would we do without the increasingly mad Keith Jones, eh? I have no idea what he looks like, but I imagine a curmudgeonly old man, maybe with a ridiculously ornate moustache. His hair is thinning. The only footwear he’s worn for the last twelve years are a pair of tartan slippers his grandchildren bought him one Christmas partially as a joke. He has only the vaguest of ideas how the real world works and he thinks he’s figured out how to solve all of its problems.

And it’s through brilliant ideas like these.

introduce legislation to make it illegal to use the term ‘marriage’ when describing the civil partnership agreement between gay males and gay females.

Not to say I support the petition, but Keith has a wonderful way of just being hilariously self-righteous that means that most of his petitions get rejected. I bet he thinks he’s Make A Stand, too. Tch.

I shudder to think what would happen if Keith Jones ever found this website. I imagine that the sky would crack asunder. Or something.

introduce legislation so that people who pay to spend time under tanning machines who then contract skin cancer are NOT entitled to treatment of that skin cancer on the NHS.

by keith jonesd of taxpaying pensioner without political affiliation

Tanning salons cause skin cancer. That is now official. People who use tanning salons to cause skin cancer should not then be able to obtain treatment free on the NHS. Nobody who self inflicts any condition requiring medical treatment should receive treatment on the NHS. Taxes paid into the NHS should be reserved for people who contract medical conditions naturally – we already have enough of those, without taking on responsbility for everybody who makes an active choice to damage themselves.

Right. And people who smoke and then get lung cancer shouldn’t get treatment either. And, hey, nobody has conclusively proven that mobile phones don’t cause brain tumours, so if you’ve ever used a mobile phone or if you live near a mobile phone mast you shouldn’t be able to get any form of treatment. Actually, people have been complaining about power lines and so on over the years as well, so let’s just prevent anyone who uses electricity from getting medical treatment for anything.

Wow! Look how much money we’ve saved for the NHS!

If I hadn’t had the option to buy alcohol in a supermarket, a bar, at the age of 18(legally), I would not have had to rely on the generosity of state assistance to continue to aid me in trying to recover from alcoholism.
by Tom Fisher

Section 28 was an amendment to the United Kingdom’s Local Government Act 1986 which stated that a local authority “shall not intentionally promote homosexuality or publish material with the intention of promoting homosexuality” or “promote the teaching in any maintained school of the acceptability of homosexuality as a pretended family relationship”. We ask for it to be reinstated. Our children should not be told it is normal, acceptable and equal to be homosexual.

That last sentence right there? That’s you being a Homophobe. Just have a Time Machine, a coathanger, and the date and location of your conception.

prevent schools telling five year olds about gay sex.

by Mr Rob Simcox

Pupils as young as five were left ‘confused and worried’ after a school assembly to explain homosexuality.

Parents said the experience left some pupils afraid to cuddle each other in the playground in case other children thought they were gay.

They complained they were not consulted over the content of the assembly.

When parents complained to the headmaster, they were treated as ‘homophobic’ for even raising the issue.

The assembly, given to pupils aged from five to 11 at Bromstone Primary in Broadstairs, Kent, aimed to ‘steer them away from homophobic bullying’.

It also covered bullying on the grounds of race, language and weight. Gemma Martin, 28, whose children attend the school, said, ‘Little girls often cuddle each other if one of them is crying or has fallen over. Now they are afraid to do that in case the others think they are gay’.

Headmaster Nigel Utton said the 30-minute assembly contained only a small section on homosexuality which was appropriate for the age of the children.

I think anyone who reads this would, and should, be disturbed that schools are even attempting this without consenting the parents first.

Well you are a Homophobe, Mr Simcox. You’re assuming that teaching kids that it’s okay to be gay means teaching them about raunchy butt sex, which is a fairly harmful and, yep, Homophobic assumption to go ahead and make.

A person might think twice about committing a crime if they know their DNA might bring them to book.

I think Gower would have better luck with his petition were he to use a slightly less sinister verb. “Harvest” makes him sound like a mad Scientist, or an alien who feeds on genetic material. Also: Didn’t the EU tell us we couldn’t do this anymore?

All secondary school students should not have to wear ties, blazers/jumpers, shirts smart trousers smart shoes etc. This is because we should be able to express ourselves through our clothing and also so we can all be different.

This is exactly the sort of thing we should be troubling the Prime Minister with. Bonus: There’s only one serious signature on the thing and, so far, three comical responses.

Remove the VAT on CE approved motorcycle safety equipment. Helemts, Leathers, Boots, Etc.

This petition is to have the VAT which is placed on motorcycle safety equipment reduced to zero. Currently all motorcycle safety equipment, that is helmets, gloves, boots, leather/Textile jackets/trousers/suits etc. are charged with 15% of VAT.

Should the Prime Minister reduce the cost of any CE approved equipment by this 15% he will be encouraging motorcycle to invest in their safety by wearing more protective clothing. Where as it is the choice by some, and this petition does not seek to change the law on required apparel, to wear little more protective than a helmet , others face the financial constraints of not being ale to afford good safety equipment.

This change will help the government move towards its target of reducing serious injury and death to motorcyclists by actively encouraging the use of CE approved equipment. The reduction in VAT revenue is negligible to the financial cost sayings to both health services and emotional cost to families.

Protect our skin Prime Minister.

Oh, not this again. Protect your own bloody skin. If you didn’t want to pay through the nose for expensive safety gear perhaps you should have chosen a slightly less dangerous method of transportation.

by David John Leslie Crowe

In all recent governments, Margaret Thatcher was the only Prime Minister who can say she truly stood for Great Britain. She helped put the Great back in Great Britain, only to see many aspects of our country and its patriotism removed by subsequent governments in their unstinting thirst for a global PC approach, which decries lots of good and great aspects of being Great British. Shame on those responsible.

Again, shouldn’t this be up to Thatcher’s family? I mean yes, as a former Prime Minister she is presumably entitled to a State Funeral, but in what kind of backwards society should it be mandatory to parade a former leader’s corpse through the streets of the capital, regardless of what her next of kin (or whomever) might want?

“We’d planned a very small, very private funeral, but some dick on the ePetition website wanted her to have a full blown State Funeral, with a marching band and fireworks and all that shit.”

Make abortion illegal in the United kingdom and promote adoption of unwanted babies in order to save life rather than kill life.

by Martin Scrase

Since the 1960′s our society has murdered 6,000,000 unwanted children in their mother’s wombs. This is a modern day holocaust. Unless we speak up for those who cannot speak up for themselves then millions more will die. Women have many rights but they do not have the right to take an unwanted life. There are extreme cases when it is better that the baby die in order that the mother live, but the vast majority of the reasons for abortion are supposed social reasons. In reality it is people’s selfishness and rebelliousness. No society is free that murders it’s own children in its mother’s wombs.

No, “in reality” it’s you deciding that everybody should have your personal set of moral “standards” – namely that people ill-equipped to handle a baby should be forced to care for their unwanted accident and grow up in a home where they’re unloved. Or, alternatively, be placed into adoption and always have the question of why they weren’t good enough for their birth mother nagging them at the back of their head. You are, like most militant pro-life (anti-choice) campaigners, a careless, selfish shitcock.

Britannia no longer features on any new coin from 2008, yet Britannia has featured on our coinage since the time of Charles II. A representation of Britannia appeared on the coinage of the Roman emperors Hadrian and Antoninus Pius. For as long as we have an independent currency, let Britannia be seen on our coinage.

Why?

change the law to make parents/guardians legally accountable for the actions and behaviour of their children until the age of 16 years.

Parents and their children should be held jointly accountable and be jointly punished for any illegal activity or unsociable behaviour conducted by a child under the age of 16 years.

We’ve gone over this. It’s bloody stupid to attribute the free will of one individual to another, regardless of age. Sometimes a Rebellious Teen is just a Rebellious Teen.

make it compulsory for Nightclubs to provide a plethora of cheese based snack products to all, for free.

by John Smith of Organisation of British Cheese Enthusiasts

If Nightclubs were to provide a range of cheese based snack products to their customers during the course of a night, it would help to cut down drunken violence as people would have either sobered up from the consumption of cheese, or just be too bloated from the consumption of cheese to bother trying to start fights or indulge in unruly behaviour.

This one, however, sadly isn’t:

Because, y’know, there’s no ailment or illness that medical science cannot overcome, right? I’m absolutely certain that Dr Murphy has never had to say, “I’m sorry, there’s nothing more we can do.” Probably because Dr Murphy has been secretly working on cures to every single human disease and medical problem in a large underground bunker somewhere. Instead they are paid around a third of the registered fare, this is in some cases causing small bus companies hardship which in Swindon in wiltshire is contributing to a bigger problem that is resulting in reduction in services and therfore driver requirement. Please sign the petition to remove free concessionary bus travel to those who are able to pay and only give free travel to those who are unable to walk a reasonable distance to shops and servies. I must state that I am not saying that nobody should be allowed free bus travel, the infirm and disabled that are unable to pay or have no other means of transport should still be allowed to travel for free but those who have the means should pay the half fare which was in place before this free travel rule came into force.

Or maybe it isn’t!

The Government want parents to stop using cars to transport children to school, and more people to use public transport. Surely free bus travel for unders 16′s and under 25′s in full time education would encourage people to ditch there cars, which would help with congestion and pollution to the enviroment. Will also encourage more walking, promoting a more active lifestyle.

I believe mostly to warmer climates for health reasons. Why then, is it that having paid their contributions all their working lives and in some cases still paying taxes to the U.K. Inland Revenue ,a pensioner who decides to move abroad is then expected by the U. K. Gov. to survive for their remaining years on the pension frozen at the rate at the time they leave, wherever they choose to live. It causes a great deal of bitterness when people who have paid nothing into the system are able to claim an increasing pension untill their demise, simply because they decide to live in the U.K. with its wonderfull benefit system . It is time the U.K. Gov. started caring more about its indigenous population , in this case pensioners no matter where they choose to live. When the U.K. apparently can find the money to hand out ,as we all can see , inland and abroad , they can find the very much smaller ammount to take care of the pensioners who helped to make Britain what it once was. We pensioners deserve better treatment than we are recieving in our remaining years ,surely that is our human right.

This would have a greater effect on kickstarting consumer spending than the 2.5% reduction in the VAT rate at a much lower cost. Most shoppers hate paying for parking. Allow everyone a maximum of 2hours with the same fines for exceeding the time limit.
Pensioners who are 80 years old are supposed to get £400 Winter Fuel Allowance. However, those pensioners whose 80th birthday falls after the 21st September 2008 will get £150 less(the same as 60-79 year olds)They will therefore have to wait until their 81st birthday before they get the full £400.That is assuming that they survive this winter on the reduced payment.
This is totally unfair, and I urge the government to give the full £400 to all pensioners whose 80th birthday falls within that year.Give Pensioners Justice, the least this country can do is to give them ALL enough money to keep warm during the winter. Please support my petition.

Obesity, loutish behaviour, drunkenness, knife crime, …, and even terrorism are symptoms of a system that denies justice to the ordinary citizen.

A sign of this is when, for example, a middle manager at a new university is sacked for whistle blowing. Despite attempts at obtaining justice through ‘normal channels’ it is denied. The Prime Minister even ignoring a petition signed by family, friends, past students and past staff of the institution in question as well as a number of current and past local councillors. What are less well placed observers to make of such a system?

We call on the Prime Minister to ensure that real justice, rather than mere law, rules in the United Kingdom. As a first step towards this we ask him to have a Royal Commission on ‘Justice not Just Law’.

It is essentially an ‘incitement to homophobic hatred’ offence.
There are very real concerns that if this becomes law Christians could be found guilty of ‘inciting hatred’ towards gay people for simply saying that engaging in same sex sexual activity is ‘sinful’ and contrary to God’s Word. At the very least the new offence will make people a lot more nervous about openly reflecting on their faith based view of sexuality.
The former Home Secretary, Lord Waddington has tabled a free speech amendment to the Bill which, if accepted, should help prevent Christians finding themselves in trouble with the new law for simply expressing a faith based view of sexuality.
It was expected that this vote would come up on Wednesday 23rd April 2008 but the Government have just announced that they will extend tonight’s sitting (Monday 21st) to midnight which means it will be reached very late tonight.
This is very bad because the later it comes up the less likely it is that those in favour (who tend to be older and not given to late nights) will stay.
Indeed many people won’t be there at all because they are expecting the vote on Wednesday!

One problem with the petition system is that at some point someone is going to make a petition I totally support but pad the description with things I couldn’t honestly endorse. Then it’ll look like an unpopular idea, when in fact it’s just a badly-conceived call-to-arms. This is not that petition, but it’s close: I don’t support a total ban on tobacco sales, but it’s not as crazy an idea as this makes it sound:

Totally ban the sale of Tobacco Products in the UK.

by David Coombs of Greyhound Pub

The Government banned smoking in Public Places in 2007. This didnt take into account people’s leisure time in pub’s etc.By making this ban they are in fact saying the following, (extract from a previous petition ) On 14 February 2006, the House of Commons voted by a majority of 200 for comprehensive smokefree legislation which then came into force in England on 1 July 2007. Its implementation has been hailed as a huge step forward in public health. The scientific and medical evidence is very clear that secondhand smoke kills and that there is no safe level of exposure. This legislation means the health of everybody will be protected.

In July 2008, the Department of Health published the Smokefree England – One Year On report, which showed high compliance with, and growing support for, the law including;

· 98 per cent of all premises compliant and smokefree;
· 76 per cent of people in support (and even 55 per cent of
smokers in support); and
· 87 per cent of businesses said implementation had gone well or very well.
(extract only )
. THE GOVERNMENT THEREFORE ARE HYPOCRITICAL IF THEY CONTINUE TO REAP TAX BENEFITS FROM SALES OF TOBACCO PRODUCTS.

No, they’re not.

They’re saying ‘smoke if you want but keep it out of people’s faces’. This doesn’t make them hypocrites any more than their allowing coca-cola but banning you from randomly injecting it into strangers’ arms. (I assume there’s a law against that.) What makes them hypocrites is that they made an exception for the Parliament bars.

Don’t tell me it’s not your job. I voted for you, or at least for whichever white-haired chap the other lot were pushing at the time.
relinquish the basic right for the general public to petition.

by Jamie Lynch

Petitions are a crude democratic tool which have no place in our global society of today. We who have signed below have relinquished our basic democratic right and pledged undying alleigance to whomever is prime minister, never to be questioned. We serve, therefore we are.

He’s right about this petition not being a paradox. It is ironic, though.

This petition against petitions is not a paradox.

This man is an idiot. Not because he’s asking for the petition site to be taken down (I’d quite like this too – it’s a depressing window in the sheer stupidity of British society) but because of his pledge. People seem to forget that we do not work for the Government – the Government works for us.

Make November the 11th a public holiday.

by Ruaridh of The British Public

Make november the 11th a public holiday so that we can properly show our respect to the glorious dead.

Am I the only one who thinks it’s excessive to ask for a public holiday celebrating your favourite episode of an old television show?

Raise the minimum age for drivers to 21.

by C Bowen

This would have a three-fold benefit by 1, Increasing the number of people using public transport (helping to improve services) 2, Getting cars off the road (many of which are poorly maintained) 3, Reducing accidents, as surveys show that a higher number of accidents are caused by under 21s’ than any other age bracket

I’m sure that the reason that “a higher number” of road accidents are caused by people under the age of 21 is because of their age, not because of their inexperience on the road.

give the last veteran of WW1 to die a full state funeral.

by Kevin

The country can use the ceremony to honour all those who were lost on the WW1 battlefields and who received no funeral.

I’ve seen a number of petitions which say the same thing – give the last surviving Tommy a State funeral. The problem is that we have, I think, four surviving Tommies at the moment, all of whom have said that they don’t actually want a State Funeral. So what you’re essentially petitioning for here is to disregard their wishes and have one anyway. I’m pretty sure that’s the exact opposite of honouring someone in death.
