If you're unhappy with BT's service, complain to them. If they're unhelpful, you can go to the Office of Fair Trading or Virgin Media, but none of that remotely impacts on the validity of a broadband subsidy.

BEN
Just to clarify it is the principle not the cost! 50p may well be just the price of a chocolate bar but if you roll over for this where does it end!!
i personally pay line rental, broadband fees, and call charges! as well as some extras i got stiffed with when i took the contract out. i don't live out in the sticks but my broadband service is diabolical because of the shoddy state of BT's equipment they charge me the same as everyone else so why does that not entitle me to the same 24 mbps service they advertise at thier expense not someone elses.
I was living in New Zealand 35 years ago and local calls were free (as they are now) to get that here you have to be locked into a 12 month contract its time BT looked after the people who keep them and deliver what they promised at no extra cost to the people who are already paying through the nose
