Stop landlords discriminating against children. Landlords routinely specify no DSS, smokers, pets or children. Children are valuable and full members of society and need a secure home. The law should not allow private landlord to make providing this more difficult. Other minority groups are protected by anti discrimination legislation with regard to housing and children should be afforded the same rights.

I’m going to refer to a bit of text from a previous petition complaining about landlords who forbid pets from living in their properties. Obviously I have to change one or two words but it’s pretty much applicable here.

Many landlords prefer to disallow children for a number of reasons. The scent and hair can be difficult to clean out, for instance, which means if another potential tenant with, say, a child allergy comes to look at the property they wouldn’t be able to take it because they might die.
