My solution is to work on cases that deal with individuals who have paid into the system and treat them as individuals when they need help and not financially penalise people because they are the partners of people who are in receipt.

Okay, so it's slightly more complex than implied by the Snark. The solution to the issue you described is to threshold income tax for couples rather than individuals, not to give out free prescriptions for any disease a petitioner has.

"If you didn’t work you’d get your medication for free"

Incorrect!

If you are on jsa or ib which is now esa and it is contribution based and your partner is working then you pay. The way the DWP law works is that your partner has their pockets picked by the government by having to support the non-working partner despite the non-working partner having paid into the system for years.
You see, you pay income tax and nat ins as an individual, but when you need to call on the system you've paid in to you and your partner are classed as one unit. Remember, there are no married couples tax allowances anymore. If I'm wrong then please kick my arse.
