Justice (n)

  1. A condition where everyone gets what they deserve.
  2. Whatever I want at this particular moment.
by Steven Gash (rejected)

Pensioners who are 80 years old are supposed to get £400 Winter Fuel Allowance. However, those pensioners whose 80th birthday falls after the 21st September 2008 will get £150 less(the same as 60-79 year olds)They will therefore have to wait until their 81st birthday before they get the full £400.That is assuming that they survive this winter on the reduced payment.
This is totally unfair, and I urge the government to give the full £400 to all pensioners whose 80th birthday falls within that year.Give Pensioners Justice, the least this country can do is to give them ALL enough money to keep warm during the winter. Please support my petition.

Justice (n). Defining a cutoff in December instead of September.

by Dr Alfred Vella

Obesity, loutish behaviour, drunkenness, knife crime, …, and even terrorism are symptoms of a system that denies justice to the ordinary citizen.

A sign of this is when, for example, a middle manager at a new university is sacked for whistle blowing. Despite attempts at obtaining justice through ‘normal channels’ it is denied. The Prime Minister even ignoring a petition signed by family, friends, past students and past staff of the institution in question as well as a number of current and past local councillors. What are less well placed observers to make of such a system?

We call on the Prime Minister to ensure that real justice, rather than mere law, rules in the United Kingdom. As a first step towards this we ask him to have a Royal Commission on ‘Justice not Just Law’.

Justice (n). A healthy physique.

by Jonathan Evans

There are very real concerns that if this becomes law Christians could be found guilty of ‘inciting hatred’ towards gay people for simply saying that engaging in same sex sexual activity is ’sinful’ and contrary to God’s Word. At the very least the new offence will make people a lot more nervous about openly reflecting on their faith based view of sexuality.
The former Home Secretary, Lord Waddington has tabled a free speech amendment to the Bill which, if accepted, should help prevent Christians finding themselves in trouble with the new law for simply expressing a faith based view of sexuality.
It was expected that this vote would come up on Wednesday 23rd April 2008 but the Government have just announced that they will extend tonight’s sitting (Monday 21st) to midnight which means it will be reached very late tonight.
This is very bad because the later it comes up the less likely it is that those in favour (who tend to be older and not given to late nights) will stay.
Indeed many people won’t be there at all because they are expecting the vote on Wednesday!

Justice (n). The act of prioritising irrational prejudice over the rights of others.

by Margaret King

There is one lawyer, in particular, who frequently appears in the papers as having acted in this way for celebrity clients. I feel, strongly, that if someone has committed an offence, especially one which may cause INJURY OR DEATH to an innocent victim, it is totally wrong for this person to pay a lawyer to exploit a loophole in the law in order to escape punishment for this. (There should, of course, BE no such loopholes but that’s for another petition).

Justice (n). A punishment under law for upholding the law as written.

by Veronica (rejected)

Whether placing an order via telephone, or a website, we, (the ordinary British public) are subjected with "add on’s" (extra selling).

Apparently, the poor staff who have to offer these items are DOWNGRADED if they do not meet their targets by the companies they work for!

It’s not only unfair on our extra telephone bill, but also on the poor staff who work for these "GREEDY" companies!

There has to be be some kind of compliance to protect both parties.

Justice (n). Shorter, more convenient telephone calls.

Why do we encourage all our children to study at university in the hope that they will gain education but few seem to be encouraging any real education about love. I would like to be able to attend university, to have the opportunity to learn about love (in terms of humanity, philosophy, history, arts, and science, etc.).

What does she think happens at university?

Here’s a collection of Death!s. You might want to just skim them. They’re much of a muchness.

In light of what happened to baby P and other unfortunate childern in the past. I petition the government to bring back the death penalty for the murder of helpless childern.

Hanging should be brought back. It should only be used for people such as murderers, child abusers etc… Why should these pathetic excuses for human beings be allowed to live in this world?

by Joanne of "MOTHERS" (rejected)

Year after year so called "human beings" are cruelly and inhumanely harming children. When it gets to the courts they are being sentenced in my opinion, with a tap on the wrist and out early for "good behaviour". I speak for all when i say that the punishment needs to fit the crime. However the goverment will not allow the death penalty, therefore life should mean life. And so in the case of baby P, may his death be the marking of a new begining in the way we deal with inhumane criminals

by J Marshall (rejected)

Recently there have been a number of harrowing murders, these include:
• The sickening murder and persistent cruelty of Baby P.
• 2 year old Ainlee Labonte was murdered, covered in 64 scars, scalds, cigarette burns and bruises.
• The murder of Clare Bernal who was shot by her former boyfriend on the shop floor at Harvey Nichols.
• The murder of Nicola Morrin, stabbed to death after years of abuse from her ex boy friend.

There are huge benefits to re-instating the death penalty in the UK:
(1) It guarantees that the murder will not murder again.
(2) It provides assurance and comfort to victims family and friends that justice has been served.
(3) It saves approximately the tax-payer approx £35,000 per year – which could pay for 2 nurses and save lives.

You must ensure that the ‘murderer’ is absolutely guilty, however where there is overwhelming conclusive evidence and the murder is sufficiently cruel to deserve it, we believe the death penalty is the only appropriate solution.

by Stuart Williams (rejected)

I believe that the time is now right to pose the question of ensuring people who are convicted of the most heinous crimes against the person to be sentenced to death. In the most recent case of "Baby P" we are told that the maximum sentance his three murderers "or abusers" as the law would put it, is 14 years. As a decent citizen and caring parent, i find that absolutely disgusting and merely one other example of how our laws are completely inadequate for our modern society.

by Scott McManus (rejected)

In light of the brutal death of Baby P, perhaps it is time for the UK to consider reinstating the death penalty for the perpetrators of such heinous crimes. Support this petition if you agree that the death penalty should be brought back as punishment for crimes such as this one.

by Steven Lee Jones (rejected)

In a recent case, beautiful Baby P had his rights taken off him from the people who were meant to enforce them. His right to life, his right to freedom from torture and degraded treatment and more. Why shouuld criminlas who have taken the rights of others be allowed to maintain theirs.

by Andrew Balmbra of YHN (rejected)

In the light of the baby P tradgedy. It is more necessary then ever, to bring back the death penalty. Cases like that of babyP, must be deterred, and the only way is to bring back the death penalty. It pains me even now to think of what happened to that poor child!

by KERRIE MILNE (rejected)

I am sick of hearing on the news about innocent children and adults who are terrorised by their parents or strangers and end up being killed for no reason. I want these offenders to pay for the abuse and harm they do, I want capital punishment to be reintroduced to avoid these monsters being tucked up in a cushty jail for 3 years, playing the latest Xbox game and not being punished for their actions. They need to take responsibility for what they do. With advances in science we can get the right people who commit the crimes! Then we can use the money saved on jail expenses to help our societies to become better places!

by Daniel Gater (rejected)

In light of the horrific abuse in the recent case of Baby P, we petition the Prime Minister to allow a public referendum on whether Capital Punishment should be re-instated for crimes where children and abused, neglected and/or murdered. Sadly, the case of Baby P is not unique and this happens in our country too often. We need to start thinking about tougher punishments that would act as a deterrent and help protect the children of Britain.

by Nina Cripps (rejected)

Due to the horrific nature of this crime to Baby P, looking at my little girl who is about the same age it makes me sad that all in this country they get is a hardly worth it jail sentence.
I believe the more horrific crimes should get the just punishment deserved.
The longest sentence I hear is 14 years.
Poor children get attacked and abused in their own homes every day and as a nation I feel something has to be done in the Justice System to help deter these people.

by tracey packer of human rights (rejected)

this poor baby boy suffered a short terrible life due to 2 crazy so called human beings. a prison sentence isnt enough justice, any other country would inflict death on them which is no less than they deserve. please lets do something for this little boy and let him have justice for the awful life he led

Scary URL on that one.

by RJG (rejected)

There is talk of Baby P’s mother being granted lifetime anonymity on her release from prison. This would cost the taxpayer a great deal of money. She, and others like her, should have to take their chances.

Well I wonder why that might fucking be!

If only there was some solution to this raving lunacy.

This petition is designed ot help out all those who have been bombarded/annoyed/cheesed off by junk from people who follow papers such as the Daily Mail and The Sun word for word.

We need to get together and stop these people having access to the internet so that we are saved from their endless self-righteous tripe that they feel the need to peddle.

Articles that are designed to get people to react by creating endless facebook groups on the same subject, articles that get people to go off on witch hunts for accused individuals, articles that serve no prupose other than to mis-inform they’re less than inteligent readers, articles that only appeal to the readers who’s morals and emotions are like sheep and follow the latest tabloid spread on whatever ‘controversy/outrage/shock is this weeks news.

Sign up if you can actually think for yourself and don’t need the news hacks to tell you what to feel/think/do.

It was alright the first few times we heard it…now this is usually used as the toilet/drink break on tour.

Quotes From Fans:

‘ALL ABOUT YOU MAKES ME WANT TO CURL UP INTO THE FEOTAL POSITION AND CRY’

‘we have to hear all about *beep* you, over and over and over and over. you can’t dance to it, you can’t even sway to it, what the bloody hell is the point of it?! haha’

‘people would rather hear a song from the new album rather than one which is played every single tour.’

‘It is Played Far Too Many Times’

‘Why can’t they just learn a NEW song and play that over and over again’

‘All About You is a buzz kill’

We are genuine McFly fans who pay a lot of money to travel over the country to see them on tour and at summer gigs.
We’re just fed up of having to hear the same song at every gig.

I am starting this petition to complain about the exit of John Sergeant from Strictly come dancing. It has become apparent that Mr Sergeant has decided to leave the show because he felt he didn’t deserve to be in the competition.

We as a nation are not as naïve as the BBC think and we do not believe for one second that this decision was made by John Sergeant himself. We are in no doubt that he has been forced out by the show’s organisers. If the organisers do not want John Sergeant in the show, they should not allow the public to cast a vote. He is being kept in the show by the public because he is a popular person. The show is not just about dancing skills, but also about entertainment and we as a nation find John Sergeant very entertaining.

We request that you ask the show to immediately reinstate John Sergeant and if this is not done, we will have no choice, but to start a protest outside the building of where Strictly Come Dancing is staged as well as outside the House of Commons.

No. No. And no and no. Also, no. (I think the only limit on these is the number of permutations of ‘john’, ’sergeant’, ’strictly’, ’sargeant’ and ’searegieaont’ in the URL field.)

My name is Katie Green. This year I won my dream job and was signed as the new face of Wonderbra. All my dreams had come true. I was following in the footsteps of one of my idols Eva Herzigova. I really respected her because she was the same as me a curvy size 12 girl and not the rakes we now see walking down the catwalk and plastered all over the media.

Then I had a massive knock to my confidence I was signed with a top London modeling agency and told to loose 2 stone, despite being 10st 5lb and 5ft 10ins, or say goodbye to a modeling career. I started to starve myself and managed to loose 7 pounds in 1 week. I was treated with no respect by this agency and decided I’d prefer to not have a modeling career instead of sacrificing my health and happiness.

Why should models have to starve themselves to have a career and why should the women of Britain be made to feel “fat” or “ugly” for being a size 10 or above. I think its time we finally put a stop to this. I am hoping for 20,000 signatures and then I will present this to Number 10 Downing Street and the Prime Minister.

“Say no to size zero”? Have you seen Gordon Brown? Seriously, you have to ask him to do something or else what’s the point?

Throughout the existence of the UEFA Champion’s League the football league, in their wisdom, have scheduled football league games to be played on the same night. This then in turn affects the attendances at these league games, with many supporters deciding to stay at home and watch the Champion’s League games on television. Surely with many Football League clubs suffering financial difficulties it would make sense to schedule the games when more people are likely to attend. We, therefore, ask the Prime Minister to speak to the Football League and advise them not to schedule midweek League games on the same night as Champion’s League matches.

Seriously. He’s the Prime Minister; he’s not your class representative. It’s not his job to talk to people for you. That’s your job.

Many African preachers set up churches in the UK. There is growing concern that some never attended a seminary and bring a theology of accusing children of witchcraft resulting in abuse. We need to see a system of regulation. We need genuine and qualified Pastors having undergone proper seminary training and ordination by a recognised Church body. Please pass a bill to facilitate proper church registration and inspection.

Qualified pastors? What? People qualified in holding delusions? I think having the government say who is and isn’t allowed to preach religion is a desirable way to run a country.

Action should be taken to stop ‘political correctness’ – why companies i.e. Royal Mail calls Christmass Greetings Seasons’ Greetings???
We must preserve our culture and if somebody does not like Christmas than doors are open…

Are you suggesting we ban any kind of secular Christmas greeting? If you want the culture to be preserved, maybe you should let Muslims and atheists and agnostics and Jews and Hindus all join in with it. Just a thought.

There’s another batch of Death! petitions today, but I don’t want this blog to turn into Death!-Watch. Instead, here’s a batch of highly exciting ones about the role of women in today’s society.

by karen sabourn of n/a (rejected)

Is the goverment blind as well as being stupid.Bring us into the 21st century and legalise prostitution. At least this way we could have some control like Europe does.

This petition was rejected for overlapping this one:

by Samantha Cook

Its the oldest profession and always will be, dating as far back as biblical times. If prostitution was legalised and kept in controlled areas, it would be safer for all concerned – primarily the working ladies.

The government should make it a legal requirement that all working establishments would have to have special licences and be up to a minimum standard, in terms of health and safety etc.

Earnings taken could then be subject to tax and NI.

Surely this benefits all concerned and allows the appropriate authorities to govern it sensibly.

At the end of the day, if its an act between consenting adults, then whats the problem. Should also help in the reduction of illegal trafficking of girls from other countries.

It is the oldest profession, always will be, will always be around.

This is true, as long as nobody invents an even older profession. But it still puzzles me, because prostitution is already legal. Otherwise Harriet Moron couldn’t ban it.

In any case, a woman’s place is not in the workplace. It’s at home, making sure the yob culture of knife crime doesn’t crunch our credit into a scandal… er… gate. Or something. Ask David, because I don’t understand this at all:

by David Sage (rejected)

Women did a valuable job during WW11 by working in all sorts of capacities to help the war effort while the men were away fighting. After the war the women were coerced back to being housewives and running the home and looking after the children so that the men returning from the war could find employment. If you look back at any era prior to the mid 60’s men would work and bring home a wage that was sufficient to support a wife and three kids.
Not many men can now afford to support his family unless his wife works, so the employers have got away with paying less than inflation for many a year. This creates a catch 22 situation as it now needs either a joint income of 28K or a single income of 33K to live or you have to drop to living on benefits. ( Joint income attracts two peoples personal allowance )
If there was an infinite number of jobs the only problem with women working would be the social problems we have with the youth of today who have been latch key kids with no role model or discipline in their lives.

It’s that World War Eleven again. Also, I don’t think David knows what a Catch-22 is. They could survive on free money:

What are we going to do about the Baby P Scandal?

by S. Pierce (rejected)

Sharon Shoesmith is Director of Children and Young People’s Services in the London Borough of Haringey. Her department is directly responsible for the prolonged and systematic failings that led to the torture and murder of ‘Baby P’. Despite this, she has arrogantly defended herself, and refused to either resign or sack any of the people in her department who were responsible for these failings, which have shocked and disgusted the country.

by Sarah Greco (rejected)

During his short life a beutiful baby known as baby p suffered horrific abuse at the hands of the people who were supposed to care for him and despite having 50 injurys and 60 visits from social workers in his short life he was still allowed to remain in the place were this torture happened. The social services are just as much to blame for this as the evil people who done it and should be held accountable for his death. This beautiful child needs justice

They could get a Baby P45! No? Oh, well.

by nicola wallace (rejected)

I can’t understand why the people who did nothing for baby P have not resigned in shame. I beg the prime minister to sack Shoesmith, Ward, Christou Al Zayyat and also to charge them with child neglect.

I did nothing for Baby P and I haven’t resigned in shame. I mean, I program computers to analyse images of teeth, but still, it didn’t save Baby P.

by stella ogden (rejected)
The above should be sacked and not allowed to have anything more to do with children or the care of children. They should not be allowed to resign.

Hang on, though, doesn’t that mean that murdering a baby is only as bad as leaving Andrew Sachs annoying voicemail?

by Richad Bond (rejected)

The abject failings in handling the case from start to finish are shocking and abhorrent. The services provided and the standards of these for child welfare in the borough can not be tolerated in the slightest and swiftand definitive action must be taken to prevent those that have allowed this tragedy to unfold, are removed from their positions to prevent this ever happening again. There are no apologies for this level of performance and those responsible must carry the burden of this tragedy professionally as well as morally.

Well, that’s not really very different from just sacking them…

After reading the details about the suffering and injuries sustained by such a lovely looking boy it sickens me that after only a few years these animals who done this too him will be freed!!! How can u do this? It will show people that it is okay too do this to there Children. Put a stop to this and punish them 4 wot they did 2 poor Baby P. They should have done to them wot they put poor Baby P through and as that cant be done, please make the sentance a life one as that is the least they deserve!!!!!

What amuses me about this one is the implication that killing an uglier child would have been okay. Seriously, though, can we have one that calls for long sentences without implicitly crying for blood?

by Mark Brow (rejected)

The torture, mutiliation and murder of Baby P is a perfect example of where this law would apply.

As our government, you are asked to represent the views of the people of this country. There is a ’step-change’ in opinion on this issue, that would be validated if you allow the publication of this ePetition.

I am asking for the Prime Minster to bring back the death penalty in this country, due to the fact that murder/cruelty resulting in the death of an innocent must be met by the full arm of the Law. If not make a life for a life if they kill then take there rights away and leave them to die in prison. Please change the Law.

Hey, you even forgot to mention Baby P there.

by Linda Batiste (rejected)

After the baby p case being brought to the nations attention and hearing his abusers will only receive a maximum 14 years imprisonment, I believe captial punishment should be brought back. It works in the USA and though doesn’t prevent the crimes from happening doesn’t cost the taxpaper as much in the high costs of prison stays. It also will keep high category offenders from ever being allowed out into public again, thus keeping the streets of britain slightly safer.

Yeah, it works in the USA. No crime there.

Jesus must have made such claims for their to be an argument for him being the son of God.

And that scroll was in the time of Jesus. And the fact that Jesus claimed to be King of the Jews then so what 2000 years later all of the Jews were almost wiped off the face of the plannet. So now who do you say he is?

What is happening in this country. Noone is afraid of Police and Government. Crime are happening whenever criminals wish to commit it. by Peter Adam Brown (rejected)

I will attempt to the best of my ability to reflect the views of two extreme constituents with opinions on “acceptable” facial hair. I will begin with the thoughts of many creationists, “I am in the image that God created for me.” Many religions worldwide see the removal of any body hair as a direct insult to God, a good example of this are the Nazarene’s thought to be close to Jesus Christ himself. It is also thought that shaving is an extreme act of supreme vanity showing superiority over the God who created him.

The humanist viewpoint does not differ greatly either with the quote, “I am as I have evolved” or more directly “I am a man, as my DNA has destined me to be.” Surely we males would not have been selected through millions of years of evolution if hair on the face or the body for that matter had not have been of some importance?

Thank you very much for your time and responses would be much appreciated.

You have to pass a test to drive a car, a passport to travel abroad, a CV to get a job, you have to get a licence to get married, and yet you can bring another life into this world regardless of your qualifications, lifestyle, responsibility level, paitence, age etc etc.

If you had to get a licence to allow pregnancy it might make people think twice about being more careful about having unprotected sex because they’d be breaking the law, it might control teenage pregnancies, drug addicted babies. Babies that are beaten because their parents are not suitable and responsible to be just that, parents!

At the end of the day appling for a licence would mean you have to have half a brain and some common sense which I would say are two good starting qualifications for to be parents.

There needs to be some form of law to bring a new life into this world, sign the petition if you agree that something serious should be done to STOP alot of people bringing a new life into this world because they just aren’t suitable, responsiable, drug free, non alcoholic or good enough to do so.

End!

ban the display of the eu flag and symbols as they were removed from the eu constitution when it was re drawn as the lisbon treaty, (which britain has signed to) now they have been reintroduced thus becoming the constitutional emblem and therefore britain should now hold the promised referendum.

This very nearly made sense, and had that happened it would only have been undesirable and rather stupid.

I think it would be more productive to go surfing with Dave.

The commercial disgrace and complete lack of respect for the rememberence of fallen servicemen and women is unacceptable and should be regulated by the Government as businesses seem unable to respect the wishes of the general public.

This petition was rejected, because it’s stupid and way outside the government’s remit– oh, no, hang on, it was rejected because it overlaps this one:

by DH Herold

Currently we are seeing advertising for Christmas starting as early as September or October.Which in my opinion is an utter disgrace and is nothing but commercial greed and the exploitation and abuse of a greatly loved and respected religious occasion.

Therefore, why can’t the Goverment at least consider bringing in a code of practice or legislation whereby, advertising for Christmas does not begin until the beginning of December. (Just like they do in many countries on the continent) Surely that’s got to be a better solution, than the commercial greed fest we’re forced to witness ever earlier, every year.

They what now? It’s illegal to advertise Christmas things in November in continental Europe? Are you sure?

Well done Mr. Brown,
What are you? Robin Hood in reverse.
By insisting the Banks lower interest rates, you have robbed the poor to give to the rich, yet again.
Pensioners, who have already been hit hard by fuel & food inflation, lost most of their saved assets because you asked them to invest in Stock Exchange Securities, are now to receive much reduced interest on their cash savings, so that those who have borrowed carelessly may benefit.
Most Pensioners are now worse off than they have ever been.
My advise to the young – NEVER SAVE A PENNY – CARRY ON SPENDING OTHER PEOPLES MONEY – IF YOU DON’T – Mr Brown will soon relieve you of any savings you may have, once you reach retirement.
Recipey for total National Disaster.
No Vote for you Mr. Brown!

I see.

An increasing number of telecommunications companies are charging customers for receiving hard copies of their phone bills. The companies reasoning behind this is that paper bills are bad for the environment. They wish customers to pay online and therefore forgo this additional charge. Once they impose this fee, a percentage of the charge will be passed on to a third party to ‘plant a tree’. This charge penalises those with no access to the internet, I.T. equipment and those less well off in society. This thinking is effectively companies levelling their own corporate ‘green’ tax! Companies should leave it to customers to decide which good cause, if any, their money should go towards. They should only charge for the cost of the service they provide.

Sound familiar? He’s submitted exactly this before.

Serious crimes could be punished by the death sentence. Lesser crimes could be punished by fines and community service.
This would save a lot of public money and prison would no longer be a place where people learn to become better criminals. The death sentence would act as a deterrent and cut the rate of reoffending.

Is this a good plan? I think it might not be.

Mal Jones and Sue Wray have just pulled off the Petitions Site equivalent of turning up to the same social event wearing identical dresses.

by mal jones

These are much loved and supported facilities used by young and old alike and they play a vital role in the community. Everyday the pools are full of people of all shapes and sizes keeping themselves fit and active. The staff are fantastic and there is always a friendly atmosphere whether it’s yoga, bowls or kids playing football. These centres are in areas which desperately need such facilities- isn’t it the council’s job to provide them?

by Sue Wray

We wholeheartedly oppose Wirral Council’s proposal to close Guinea Gap Baths, thereby removing a vital leisure centre from a community that desperately needs it. This is a section of the Wirral that has large numbers of underprivileged families, many of whom do not have the resources to travel long distances to enjoy their leisure pursuits. The closure of this facility will also end the long history of Wallasey Swimming Club, which has encouraged thousands of children to swim, both for fun and competitively. These children have nowhere else to go if the closure is allowed to take place.

Two points I wish I make, here.

  • Firstly, how difficult is it to use the Petition site properly? Really? There is a line of text that says “We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to…” and then a blank text field there. There are masses of petitions where the petitioner has decided to use this space to enter their name. No matter how many signatures you get, you’re not likely to get the Prime Minister to Leon Latham-Fisher or Christine Broadfoot. Sue Wray’s petition is a particularly bad example, because the petition, as it is on the official site, reads “We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to ‘We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Oppose the closure of Guinea Gap Baths in Wallasey.”
  • Secondly, how difficult is it to search for a pre-existing petition that overlaps with your motives? Eh? You wassocks.

surfing is the best way for me to unwind from a hectic schedule. Gordon Bennett has one of if not THE more hectic schedule in the UK. I suggest that he go surfing with me on the weekend so to understand how relaxing it truly is.

Dee Murrell has apparently been very deeply affected by the tragedy of poor little Baby P. Enough to petition the Prime Minister:

by Dee Murrell

Social workers should legally insist that all clothing, except for maybe underwear or nappy, be removed and food/paint/makeup/ointment etc be cleaned off at every visit. As highlighted in Baby P’s case, clothing and ‘chocolate’ can hide a multitude of sins. Children old enough to speak for themselves may be too afraid to do so.

If this was implemented, abusive carers would soon understand that it won’t be so easy to hoodwink social workers or to hide signs of physical abuse.

…and then again, an hour later.

by Dee Murrell

Up to four children die each week in England from abuse or neglect & many more suffer serious harm or injury. The NSPCC says that babies & toddlers are particularly vulnerable to physical abuse.

Many instances of child abuse are never brought to the attention of the authorities. It should therefore be compulsory for carers to take babies & toddlers for a health check & physical examination at least every 3 months, for the first year or two, to help detect any signs of neglect or physical abuse. If carers fail to attend a health check, social services should be alerted and the child seen without delay.

Responsible carers already take their children to health centres regularly, so this system should only serve to highlight any irresponsible, neglectful or abusive carers. It would help prevent the very young and most vulnerable from slipping through the net and hopefully prevent further tragedies like that of Baby P and Tiffany Wright.

Thank you.

Am I the only person who thinks it’s a bit demeaning to ask a parent to strip their baby down to just their underwear? Even prisoners of war get better treatment than that.

Intelligent Design should be given equal or more time over Un-intelligent Design in the class room. Perhaps we are able to acknowledge, finally, the swing away from ‘religion’ over the past few hundred years, not due to reason but in reaction to church abuses.

“Intelligent Design” is already taught in class rooms – as part of Religious Education. Where it belongs. Bonus points for referring to Evolution as “Un-intelligent Design”, though. Bet it took you ages to come up with that one.

by G Southwell

It is apparent that the Goverment while in power has fail to properly an prudently manage the economy. This has severly effected UK citzens savings and pensions values for our future retirement. I believe it is only RIGHT & PROPER that ministers should forgo any Minsterial Pension rights they have been entitled to during their period of goverment failure.

Right. Because the current worldwide economic crisis is entirely down to this one man who has only been in power of one small damp island for a year and a half, as opposed to, say, a number of global factors which have been slowly developing over several years.

by Robert Reid of N/A

I was walking just outside Clapham Junction station on Saturday night, when I saw a young lady sobbing on the floor. It was clear to me that she was homeless and seeing so many happy people walking past her (including myself) hammered home just how dreadful she must have been feeling. Admittedly, I’m a “walk past and don’t make eye contact” person and performed the same tired old routine on Saturday night.

According to Crisis, there are approximately 700 people sleeping rough every night. That’s 700 people who, on Christmas day, will realise just how homeless they are when the Christmas Crackers start to crack above and around them.

There’s not much that one person can do to relieve the suffering of our “rough sleeping” homeless but I hope that those who can do something will do anything they can.

I can picture the scene now – ol’ Bob sees this huddled, crying homeless woman on the way home. He avoids making eye contact, but he cannot escape the haunting image of the woman, laying on the ground, lamenting. He racks his brain – how can he, One Man, make a difference? Then it hits him. He’ll ask the Prime Minister to help! Brilliant! I bet no-one’s thought of this before, he thinks as he excitedly types his petition out. And, when he’s done, he’s so satisfied that he’s made a positive contribution to society – maybe the single greatest contribution he will ever make – that he has a good, long wank to celebrate. And that’s the story of how Bobby Reid saved Christmas for the homeless people of N/A.

The thought that there is no reward or real incentive for true British family values (traditional as it sounds) – one earner in the family, the other partner bringing up the children, loving and caring for the future of their children and the wider contribution that stable family environment promotes. I therefore suggest that in these cases the earning adult’s salary is divided by 2 and the current income tax bands/rates applied to these figures. In the case of a higher rate tax payer the potential would be to split into 2 standard rate tax incomes (granted up to a certain level) and therefore reduce the income tax paid. Both parents are “working” to better the economy.

Gordon Brown should be all over this idea, especially considered that, depending on what tax band the “two” salaries fall under, they could theoretically be drawing twice as much tax out of the family.

by David Smith of gig goer

Make it illegal for ticket agencies to sell tickets unless they have said tickets in hand and are ready to post them or for ticket agencies to send out tickets in a timely fashion for example at least one calendar month prior to the gig. The reason that ticket agencies use for posting tickets out up to 48 hours before the actual event is to stop ticket touting – if the second hand ticket market really is something that the government wants to stop and not just pay lip service to then it should make hard arrests of all touts at all gigs, stop ebay from selling tickets and actively pursue through court action anybody court selling tickets on ebay.

This petition doesn’t seem to have anything to do with itself. Also: What about online ticket sellers such as TicketMaster who email a digital ticket that has to be printed out? You lemon.

We live in France pay our taxes in the UK but are not paid the winter fuel alowance because we live overseas. We have no option but to pay our taxes in the UK as my husband was emplyed by local authority. We still have to heat our home from our pension. Many people who live in EU countries who were paid winter fuel allowances before leaving the UK are still in receipt of the payment. Why because we live abroad are we exempt and discriminated against but have no option but to pay our taxes in the UK. There is over 55 million pounds unallocated fuel and insolation money in the UK Government coffers but we have no access to it. Mr Brown you are using our taxes but not being fair to us and many many others in the same situation. We ask you to change the governement policy to allow WFA payments for overseas residents.

“Hello, is that the Landlord of the small flat I’m renting but don’t currently live in because I own a house further up the road? Ah, hi there. Listen, the heating’s gone and I was wondering if–… No, not in the flat, no. The house. — Yes, the one up the road. — Well yes, I know you don’t have anything to do with that house but I was hoping you could send a plumber to… hello? Hello? He hung up!”

by Peter Edwards of PrivateCareServices

That all Elderly, In-firmed and Disabled People be given the right in “Law” to access Free Heating and subsidised Food for all on “Benefits”and “Pensions” during the “Winter” months and all “Cold” spells of weather.Futher, laws to protect same if person or person’s, family, public or public services are found wanting.

Call me young and naive, but I don’t understand the philosophy of “Old people deserve free things.” I mean, I get the point of free bus passes for OAPs and disabled people, but suddenly deciding that they deserve free energy, food, etc. seems somewhat silly to me. Maybe I’ll change my tune when I’m older (hint: I probably won’t), but right now it seems a little ridiculous to me.

by Mr R C Hull

We are paying an average of £25-£40 More on our shopping bills every week! It is not fare that we are being Ripped off! When fuel started to rise, Food prices did also immediately every week, But now fuel has come down the food prices have stayed the same! I know, I do the shopping. Mr Brown why are they getting away with Ripping us off? You would be helping all families in GB, Don’t you think it would be a big vote winner if you did this? I can’t keep affording 72p for a loaf of bread, that only cost 39p at the start of the summer! Please help us.

Mr Hull (who I always thought had died a few years ago when he fell off his roof trying to adjust his TV aerial) does not seem to understand the current economic crisis that has befallen the entire bloody world.

by Oliver Wood

As every single person in our country knows, millions of people are out of work, and, therfore, are looking for a job to generate income. However, one thing that is being over-looked is the number of migrant workers coming into our country, and taking the jobs that British citizens want and need

In my experience, the immigrants coming over from mainland Europe are only doing the jobs that no other bugger seems to be prepared to do. If we tell these people that they can’t do these jobs anymore, then the jobs won’t be filled at anywhere near the rate that they have been, meaning that jobs in factories, on building sites, and so forth go unfilled and consequently the entire country suffers.

But, hey, never mind that, You just sit there in your Favourite Chair reading that article in the Daily Mail about how British Jobs are quite clearly being Stolen by Pablo the Polishman. Clearly.

The single, solitary signature sums up this petition rather nicely.

by Cheryl Brown

It seems grossly unfair for working people to be penalised by; having to take time off work or have to pass keys over to others to have work done on their property. Even worse when you don’t know anybody in your area you can trust.

This would create jobs for people in need and be good public relations for councils.

And, of course, you’ll complain when your Council Tax goes up to pay for this extravagance.

by Steven Hodgson

I am appalled at seeing many young riders wearing totally inappropriate, cheap equipment, the main reason for this, the high cost of good kit.

Using decent kit will decrease injuries and save a great deal of money and services, by reducing the need for extended medical care and emergency services.

My own son now rides, and we made good kit a condition of helping him buy the bike. The kit, which is of the minimum standard we would allow, cost £606. Without VAT it would have cost under £500.

The kit you can now buy reduces a life-threatening accident into much more minor accident. My own son recently slid off on a bend covered in wet leaves. From over 40mph he slid down the road and bounced off a curb, injuries: a scratch on his knee and some bruises and soreness. In jeans, trainers and a fashion jacket it would have been a much different story..!

It would be too much to ask that kit was subsidised (my true preference), but classifying it as Safety Equipment, and removing VAT would be a big help.

Please Mr Brown, do something to save this country’s finest resource… our people!

So, your son quite happily hops onto what is generally considered to be a more dangerous method of transportation, and you think the Government should subsidize the cost of his safety equipment? Why don’t you ask Gordon Brown to buy your Absailing gear while you’re at it?

The introduction of ID cards will not prevent terrorism or crime. Instead, this totalitarian act will not only further eradicate our civil liberties but bankrupt the country as well. The government simply cannot afford this scheme in the present climate, Over £5 billion and rising to churn out this white elephant. Jacqui Smith stated on the 7th November this year that she thinks the people ‘can’t wait for ID cards’! Who is she speaking to?

Please sign this petition, to keep the pressure on the government to drop this scheme for good.

If people spent just two minutes looking for a preexisting petition that matched their aims, we wouldn’t have half a dozen petitions all asking for the same thing. Like this one.

I believe the current guidelines for sentencing child abusers is GROSSLY UNJUST for young vulnerable victims. I believe the minimum sentence for physically abusing a child should be set at a MINIMUM of 15 years as opposed to the current 5-9 years custodial sentence (with a maximum of 10 years) for serious cruelty or long term neglect that is currently in place.

The public’s response to the “Baby P” case would be comical if it weren’t tragic. The papers report what is admittedly a very sad case, only they do it in such a way as to make the public think that this tragedy is, in fact, their tragedy. So the public put on their “Let’s All Overreact To Things” hats and decide that this young child they’ve never actually met before was a soldier, a little angel, and so on and so on, and accordingly amend their view of how the criminal type in question – in this case, Child Abusers – should be punished. People who have never given a crap about anything before, with the exception of how much a packet of cigarettes costs, suddenly feel they are informed enough to decide how the law should work. And, of course, they decide that it’s just this particular type of criminal and not, say, rapists. Or murderers.

I think that the Baby P petitions – rejected or otherwise – probably merit their own post eventually. Maybe after Christmas, eh? If you’re all good little boys and girls.

We all need to do our bit to help reduce Global Warming. Recycling is something we can all do to help, but is the government doing enough to help us, help? We are one of the worst countries for recycling, and i feel we should be setting a better example, as we are one of the most powerful countries in the world. I think, if recycling bins were introduced on our streets, it would be easy to sort out our rubbish, instead of just throwing it away in a normal rubbish bin. For example, separate bins for paper, glass, cans etc. but in the style of a normal public bin. I have been to other countries in europe, and they are doing loads to recycle, including the recycling bins in public areas. I have also seen this in a few places in the UK, but there is not enough of them. My name is Rebecca Townsend and I am a 16 year old student in year 11, living in South Gloucestershire. I think its important that we recycle and do as much as we can do help our planet, as it is my generations and the generation to come, that will suffer from Global Warming.

16 years old and not very observant – there are already recycling bins all over the ruddy place.

I would like to urge the Prime Minister to strongly advise and pressurize president Karzai to negotiate with the Taliban in Afghanistan. This will not be negotiations with terrorists but with those people who are disappointed from government and have been left with no choices but to join the terrorist organization. This will benefit the NATO troops, the Afghan Government and Afghan people. The negotiation would also ease the efforts to build the country and to bring peace, stability and democracy in Afghanistan. In addition, it will help to avoid Afghan soils to become a camp for terrorists, who could then change the way of our lives either in Afghanistan or abroad. Karzai`s government is failing to provide better protection to Afghans and trying to avoid to negotiate with the Taliban. We petition you to make these changes to bring peace, stability and democracy in Afghanistan.

I’ve fairly sure that “people who… have been left with no choices but to join the terrorist organization” are still classified as terrorists.

…saving 30,000 jobs and the 700 high street stores that have been serving the public for 99 years. The rescued People’s Woolies will be a bulwark against the worst effects of the recession, employing local people, buying from local producers, easily reached by public transport, and providing the goods and services that people on low incomes need. We ask the government to do this as a matter of urgency, before Woolworths assets are stripped without any public benefit.

Ignoring the preexisting petition asking for exactly the same idiotic thing, our favourite Celebrity Big Brother contestant seemingly believes that all 700 stores popped up overnight nearly a century ago, and also seems to have forgotten that Woolworths mostly sells overpriced tat.

Serial petitioner Keith Jones has just become the first person (as far as we know) to have 10 petitions mocked on this site. But you know what’s scary?

This represents a tiny fraction of his inane pesterings. According to the search facility, he has submitted a total of 242 petitions to the Government, of which 60% have been immediately rejected.

I believe that Giles Clarke has by his actions brought English Cricket into disrepute, by allowing the England Cricket Team to take part in a game soley for monetary gain rather than seeking to develop and further advance our great game. Giles Clarke should seek to act as a guardian of the game, yet has allowed an individual to blatantly purchase our national team and has showed contempt and disregard for the rules of our great game. For this alone the Government should intervene and protect our national game from potential irreprable damage.

This petition is for people who think the BBC are in need of a long awaited cleanup the latest but not isolated of incidents by all those who thought it was a great idea to broadcast such derogatory material involving 4 humiliating telephone calls to an 89 year old pensioner and for all future incidents in the hope that all can listen and watch in view of the fact the majority are licence payers. Why is it that when any other country is facing difficulties we send our hard earned taxes to bail them out.If we suffer hard times the government should help us first. Typical example £42 million pounds is now being sent to the congo, what about the people over here that are on the bread line,CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME.At this present time due to the recession people are losing their jobs and their homes, plus we have to deal with the fact of increased prices of food, gas, electricity and petrol.Further to this immigration is out of control, quite a few are not employed or illegal causing a drain on our countries resources

The life expectancy in DR Congo is less than fifty years and you think that petrol being rather expensive somehow absolves any obligation you may have to help out? How petty are you?

It was annouced BBC News that MSN/Hotmail was to close down due to a young girl of 8 being tricked into meeting a 34 year old pedoephile. This is not MSN/Hotmails fault. It is the LAW’S fault as the pedoephile is known. This is also at the fault of the little girls parents who have given her permission to create an account on the MSN/Hotmail site, but it is in there terms and condition that applicant must be over a certain age. Labour MP’s must have realised this and this is not the companies fault. it is the laws and the parents of the YOUNG child.

please reconcider.

If the BBC were really reporting this, and if this was really happening, and if it was actually government business, then clearly it would be US government business. Possibly McCabe can’t tell the difference between Britain and America. If so, it would half-explain why McCabe can’t spell ‘paedophile’.

by Keith Jones of Taxpaying Pensioner without political affiliation (rejected)

To ‘earn’ is an adjective. BBC employees are ‘paid’ regardless of the levels of achievement, or criminal activity which results in the BBC Licence Taxpayer being required to pay their fines, therefore to say they ‘earn’ what they are paid is a gross misrepresentation of what is actually going on.

Your point about semantics would be taken more seriously if you knew what the verb ‘to adjective’ means.

It is immoral that council taxpayers should have to pay twice when people they entrust with looking after their council taxpayer pounds get it wrong. There MUST be some accountability and responsibility among our councillors and the people they pay to give them advice, when it goes wrong.

Another winning idea from our friend Keith Jones. So that must mean that whenever the government makes a shrewd investment, ministers will get to tax you for the original large amount of money they needed and pocket the difference, yes?

Anything else you want, Keith?

Shit, we’d best stop messing with you.

The country is in recession and the government should be doing all it can to reverse this.

Everybody loves a sob story but this has now gone too far on the current X Factor series, and we believe this is affecting the country’s economy. Daniel Evans, the pool cleaner, did well to get to the live stages of this years X Factor series, however the voting system has resulted in genuine talent leaving the show, while pool cleaner Daniel sails through week after week.

We note the Prime Minister has intervened in other recent media/culture issues such as the Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand fiasco, and further note that Laura White leaving the competition was raised in The House Of Commons this week, so think it only right to ask Gordon Brown to intervene here as well.

Action to remove Daniel Evans will lift the spirit of the nation – a welcome change following recent economic developments, and studies have shown a happier nation leads to a more productive nation. This shows that removing Daniel Evans from the X Factor really could help the country out of recession, and we request the urgent action of government on this issue.

But mostly, I just want to know what the rest of this one said:

Petitioners Respond!

Posted by: Andrew    in Website News

Since we’ve had a few posts here where the petition author (or at least someone using their name; we have no way to know) have found this blog and responded, I’ve made a category for it:

Oh Yeah? Let’s See You Write A Better Petition!

Other ‘meta’ categories here include:

Rejected Petitions — if I remember, this gets applied to any post with even one rejected petition in it.
Website News — posts about But Sir…
In Soviet Russia, Petition Signs You — the rather cryptic name I tag onto any post that mocks a petition response rather than the petition itself.

Ho hum, another day, another batch of rejected petitions, once again almost all of them about the increasingly tedious Ross/Brand ’scandal’. I’m posting a couple of Alans up here so we can extend the Brand Hatred Scale to cover a wider range of opinions. The new maximum is this one…

I petition that Russell Brand & Jonathan Ross should be sacked by the BBC,and the Police to prosecute them, both with immediate effect. Both of these despicable talentless guttersnipes cannot be allowed to get away with their dubious, disgusting, despicable and wanton acts of verbal abuse on elder members of society and their relatives on whom they prey for their so-called Radio 2 shows fun.The head of BBC Radio, and all his cohorts, should be sacked and prosecuted as well for allowing this broadcast to take place. All monies paid to Brand and Ross to be repaid to the BBC immediately.I demand and direct our Prime Minister to order the sacking of these two vulgar people. Please support my petition to stop the BBC scraping the dregs of society from the bottom of the barrel for its broadcasters.

…whose author not only wants them sacked, but actually wants the police to invent a new crime of Leaving Nasty Ansaphone Messages so they can be prosecuted for it. Meanwhile, the new minimum is this one…

…which is not properly explained. I would worry about any country that honoured Russell Brand.

The smoking ban has caused many job losses,it is ripping the heart out of comunity spirit and it should be repealed from all pubs where food is not served, and extractors fitted, work places like taxis when no passengers are involved as the vehicles are the taxi owners personal transport when not being used as a taxi, all bingo halls and the Royal British legion

People love stepping into a taxi that smells like an ashtray.

want to stop people from smoking infront of children, that you do not know, so that they do not feel that it has or will be a part of their life.

And you plan on enforcing this how? Do fuck off, will you?

Millions of pounds a year are being spent on MPs expenses and this is not right. The money could be better spent on improving the NHS or the public schools.

Yes, as long as the NHS and public schools can run on autopilot while all the MPs are hunkering down in their constituencies carefully avoiding spending any money. Seriously, you think people will willingly become MPs if you expect them to commute to London every week and don’t give them an expense account?

The URL is a classic as well.

If members of the Cabinet were forced to meet the coffins of our brave men and women, alongside their loved ones, they may take more time to think about the consequences of their decisions.

It should take place on a rota basis so that every minister does their bit.

Surely this is just going to increase their expenses?

Democracy in the UK

I would like to see far more Referendums on topics that effect
us all.

I would like to see Governments forced to do what the people
want.

I would like to see Ministers prosecuted when they break
promises they have made.

I would like to see Ministers prosecuted for telling lies to
each other, and to members of the public, even in Parliament.

I would like the public to be able to sack any minister, at any
time they feel that they are not doing what the people want
done. A voting system could be set up to do this. Despite
what the Government says, it is possible!

I want to see Government Ministers held accountable for not
consulting with their Constituents before any vote, and for not
putting their Constituents views before Party Politics.

I want to see all Whips sacked! I want every vote in
Parliament to be a Free Vote, so that they views of
Constituents will be delivered!

It is about time Governments worked for the people!

We need to be able to hold Government Ministers, and Local
Government Ministers, to account.

If you want to, just copy this and send it to your MP. You are
free to do so if you want.

Hey, you’ve sneakily redefined ‘democracy’ there, so that it means ‘what you want’, haven’t you? Well I have redefined communist, so that now it means ‘J Lex’.

English People are not being given the chance to decide upon their future! Plans are being drawn up to fragment their country into smaller regions! Is this grossly unfair! Therefore, I would rather be part of the United States rather than being under the tumb of the Europeans! Give us a referendum on the EU, or allow us the choice. This is not meant as a joke.

We’re being broken into smaller states! Also, we’re being consumed into the EU and losing out identity! The only solution to these two mutually exclusive problems is to join an even larger country that nobody likes and end up as a solid Democrat state that doesn’t get a say. I really have no idea what
